5.0 out of 5 stars Jace is the Place to Be
I love this album but Im addicted to his first album "Jace Everett." I first heard "Bad Things" on HBO'S True Blood and decided I had to have this song. I found the song and my curiosity hit me so I bought the whole album from I Tunes. What a voice. Loved every song on the album. Found AOL music sessions with him and I can't stop watching them! I can't believe I wasted $34.99 on this garbage. Got it this morning and put it where it belongs this afternoon. In the trash!

He really has a great voice and his lyrics are awesome. If you haven't had a chance to listen to him, do. You will be greatly rewarded with his lyrics, voice and songs..A real 5 start singer. I only wish he would make more albums and soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jace Everett, December 29, 2008
This review is from: Old New Borrowed Blues (Audio CD)
Jace Everett rules! LOVE this CD! He recorded it live in a studio, so it's not all polished up and smooth and processed music. There's flaws and its all the better for it. Its fabulous, it has that boot-leg kinda feel to it. It adds to the vibe that you could be sitting in a bar somewhere listening to it. If you like bluesy music and acoustic guitar you should get it.

Love this CD. Arrived quickly and was just as advertised, new. I knew it was not professionally recorded and it shows, but I enjoy feeling like I am sitting in his living room just listening to him play.

4.0 out of 5 stars Old New Borrowed Blues, January 18, 2011
This review is from: Old New Borrowed Blues (Audio CD)
`Old New Borrowed Blues' is a pared back recording from Jace Everett which was recorded live in his friends living room. It is raw and unadorned and great blues/country music. This has an acoustic rendition of `Bad Things' as heard and made famous from the `True Blood' TV series and to be honest this is as good, if not better, than the rockier version used for the TV series titles. I also like `Between a Father and a Son' which is a great ballad about the cycle of family relationships. There is some impressive harmonica on `I Gotta Have it' and this song never fails to get me both smiling and tapping my feet, it is a top tune. There something about when an artist records his music in an intimate low key setting that adds a certain rich dimension to the music and this is no different. The playing, tuning and timing may be a little off in places, but it isn't hugely discernable and only adds to the overall charm of the album. If you like blues music with a slight `down south' feel to it then this should be right up your street and Jace offers up some great playing, song writing and feeling on this CD.

Feel free to check out my blog which can be found on my profile page.

Only acquainted with Jace Everett through his "Bad Things" theme for HBO's True Blood, I bought 3 of his CDs from Amazon to hear more of what he sounds like. This particular CD is amazing. It was recorded practically in his living room and the sound is immediate, unadorned and personal, which brings out the best in his voice and guitar playing. I have been listening to it in my car on road trips and really enjoy it a lot.

In the liner notes Jace writes "This is a live recording. No overdubs, edits, fixes, pro Tools trickery, tuning or whatever. There are mistakes, out of tune vocals, sloppy guitar playing and all the other realities of live music." Despite these disclaimers, the vocals and music are very fetching, if not perfect, in my opinion. If all the aforementioned attributed were added to this CD, I don't know that it could be made any better. Seriously. These tunes illicit powerful feelings reflecting on the emotions of relationships or make you want to get up and dance or fall into the arms of your loved one. This CD has has Americana flavor- a bit of country, rock and a touch of blues. If this muscial style appeals to you, then this is the CD for you- I promise you, you won't be disappointed.

I'm a big fan of Jace Everett and own everything the guy's ever done. I love this album, which is essentially Jace Everett: Unplugged. Barely produced (and I mean that in a good way), the music has a much more organic and honest feel than his eponymous album. This is definitely worth buying, though honestly, it's way cheaper to just MP3 it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very nice feel, May 10, 2009
This review is from: Old New Borrowed Blues (Audio CD)
I loved the 'Bad Things' theme music of True Blood which led me to Jace's CD. It is not the same version of the song, if you want the same version you need to go to the MP3 down load. BUT this album is good. It is done live in the studio and has a 'real' feel to it. I get the feeling that Jace is not all that comfortable with the hype that his song has especially as it is a step sideways form what he usually does in Country and Western. This album is showing us who he really is not just in the musicality of it but that it is live - not mixed and tweaked to hit the jack pot. Listening to his album I hear a man who sings with his heart and expressed the journey of his soul through music. Give him a go. The masculinity that 'Bad things' gives us IS in the other ballads just listen for it.

I first heard the song "Bad Things" on HBO's Trueblood series. Love the song but the whole album is wonderful.
