Republic Pictures present "IN OLD CALIENTE" (19 June 1939) (57 mins/B&W) (Fully Restored/Dolby Digitally Remastered) --- Roy Rogers (born Leonard Slye) moved to California in 1930, aged 18 --- played in such musical groups as The Hollywood Hillbillies, Rocky Mountaineers, Texas Outlaws and his own group, the International Cowboys --- In 1934 he formed a group with Bob Nolan and Tim Spencer called "Sons of the Pioneers" --- While in that group he was known as Leonard Slye, then Dick Weston and finally Roy Rogers --- Their songs included "Cool Water" and "Tumbling Tumbleweeds" --- They first appeared in the western "Rhythm on the Range" (1936), starring Bing Crosby --- In 1937 Roy went solo and made his first starring film in 1938, "Under Western Stars" (1938) --- He made almost 100 films --- then came television, "The Roy Rogers Show" (1951) ran on CBS from October 1951 through September 1964.

Under Joseph Kane (Director / Producer), Gerald Geraghty (Screenwriter), Norman Houston (Screenwriter), William Nobles (Cinematographer), Cy Feuer (Musical Direction/Supervision), Edward Mann (Editor) - - - - - - Our story line and plot, Roy stars as the right-hand man for one of the Spanish aristocrats, Don Miguel (Frank Puglia) --- Another of the original Spanish-Americans, Delgado (Jack LaRue), robs Don Miguel's son of $40,000 and places the blame on the upstart American settlers --- It's up to Roy to settle accounts, which he does in an exciting fight at the edge of the ocean --- In Old Caliente was directed by the always dependable Joseph Kane, who helmed 42 consecutive movies for Roy --- Lots of action and an abundance of music take the stage in this classic Roy Roger's western --- Roy, in the service of a California rancher, becomes mixed up in a conflict between American immigrants to California and native Californians --- Roy and Gabby sing a delightful duet --- some wonderful tunes, "Ride on the Range Line", "Sundown on the Range", by Fred Rose, "The Moon, She Will be Shining Tonight" and, in a duet with George "Gabby" Hayes, "We're Not Coming Out Tonight", the latter two penned by Walter Samuels.
