Written and illustrated by animal lover Christine Davis, Old Dog and the Christmas Wish is a gentle picturebook for young readers about an old dog near the end of his life, and a Christmas angel who grants his selfless wish. When the old dog sees a Christmas manger carving, he notices that several wooden animals are there to greet the birth of a very special baby, but no dog. He wants to join the animals more than anything else, and as his time on Earth comes to a close during Christmas Eve, the angel gives him the opportunity to do just that. A delightful seasonal picturebook celebrating faith and love.

I saw this book in a bookstore, and first noted the wonderful illistrations. But 2 pages into the book I couldn't read any further because my eyes were blurred by tears. Yes, I tend to be emotional when it comes to animals, and we recently lost a beloved dog. But I would NEVER have chosen this book for my daughter who was very sensitive about pets and the "under-dog"; we could never watch Frosty the Snowman because he melted!
To make a long story short, read the book yourself, and make sure is appropriate for the child you are giving it to. Some children are just to sensitive, or young, to learn the intended lesson, and it's not worth the tears at this beautiful time of the year.

I'm sure the majority of children will love this story.

I don't have children, but I am an advocate for pets and bought this book for my nephew for christmas. It's a very sweet and thoughtful story. I remember seeing pets that were not treated well as a child and feeling horrible about it, especially since I couldn't do anything for them. A book like this would have made me feel a little better.

What a wonderful book. I recommend it to anyone who loves dogs!!

my friends and family who have dogs as cherished members of their families.

I bought this book for my son and grandchildren who recently had to put their 13 year old dog down. He is a real dog lover and enjoyed reading this wonderful book immensely. He would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading and who loves dogs.

This is a box of Kleenex book about a gentle old beagle at the end of his life. A Christmas Angel appears to the dog and grants him one last wish. His altruistic wish is to join the animals in the Christmas Manger to greet the Blessed Savior and the Angel gives him a chance to do that. A beautiful and very moving story and a good companion book to I'll Always Love You; Saying Goodbye to Lulu and Candle: A Story of Love and Faith.

As the owner of a beagle and one who loves beagles, I found this an especially moving story.
