5.0 out of 5 stars Been waiting for a new Alexisonfire album!, June 23, 2009
Previewing an album definitely helps people figure out what the music will sound like before they buy it and/or review it. This is another great album from a great band, highly recommended. But make sure you like this type of music before you buy it - it's got great melodies, but also screaming, loud guitars, etc.

4.0 out of 5 stars 4.5 stars, August 12, 2009
If you don't like this album, then I feel sorry for you! I assume that a lot of people were looking for another punk album like many Green Day fans were when American Idiot hit the shelves, and instead were handed an album that didn't meet their expectations, but if there is one thing I've learned from working at a movie theater, it is "The higher your expectations, the more disappointed you'll be." The fact is that this album is freaking amazing. I personally had never heard of this band until my friend walked up to me at work one day and said "you need to hear this." So I popped the CD into my computer and began to listen. I was completely flabbergasted! This album is freaking amazing. It sounds nothing like their old stuff. In fact, I actually listened to a few songs from this band that were released prior to this album and I am rather glad they took this new turn into a more rock oriented style of music. Although I am a fan of punk rock, being that I grew up on The Offspring, Green Day, Bad Religion, ETC; with this being the 2000's I am looking for something a little edgier. And as for those fanboys who think that Alexisonfire was perfect the way they were, I quote... "We are not the kids we used to be! Stop wishing for yesterday!" Alexisonfire - Old Crows/Young Cardinals, 2009. This band has broken through the wall that seems to keep a lot of bands from progressing and making new albums. Most bands nowadays have no clue where to go and keep their audience listening to the same old dribble. Alexisonfire is one band that I am glad to say is not one of them!

p.s.

I had had a few while writing this, please don't hold grammar and punctuation against me... Against Me! that's a pretty good band!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars AOF chart mostly familar territory, July 26, 2009
St Catherines, Ontario quintet Alexisonfire deliver their fourth full length release with Old Crows/Young Cardinals. This post-punk, hardcore-screamo, christian-metal outfit mostly chart familiar territory. Like their previous albums, the band relies on a fast, driving, grinding sound that packs enough punch to keep you interested. Buried beneath the fiery vocals and guitar frenzy is a finely tuned and calculated approach. The tracks accelerate rapidly and threaten to take off on themselves but are molded around solid melodies and guitar hooks. Many of the songs on OCYC echo the feel of previous hit "This Could Be Anywhere In The World"- alternating between vocal approaches to maximum effect. In a sense this is a pop convention, but the music takes a different angle. Combining elements of Post-hardcore, metal and screamo, and emo into a satisfying if not familiar plan of attack.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great album! If you like interesting loud music, buy it...
I can see why some of AOF fans are disappointed -- in that the band evolves into a more grown up sound with this album. But for us fans who are also growing up, what a treat! Read more
