Old Dutch cast-iron teapots combine traditional Japanese styling and a modern aesthetic that result in very evocative shapes. The petite Wisdom teapot is fairly upright, with sides comprised of vertical panels scored horizontally. The domed lid, also paneled and scored, shows a round knob, and the Asian-style metal handle arches well above the pot. The teapot comes in a choice of black matte or "weathered" colors that show black accents from the textured sides. Not too heavy and not too light, the perfect heft leaves one contemplating the wisdom of the world over a cup of tea. Or 18 ounces of tea, to be precise.

Iron teapots traditionally used in Japan are known as tetsubin, which were used to boil water as well as brew tea. However, the Wisdom teapot is meant just for brewing, not for boiling on a stovetop. Old Dutch uses a specially purified cast iron for its teapots, and coats the insides with black enamel to help prevent rusting. Unlike ceramic teapots, the heavy cast iron retains heat wonderfully and won't chip. After use, the pot is best cared for when rinsed and dried by hand before storing. A stainless-steel infusing basket that hangs from the rim is included to facilitate brewing with loose tea leaves. --Ann Bieri

This is a most elegant teapot, combining old style cast iron with a fine mesh stainless steel strainer. The tea stays hot a long time. Everthing I wanted in a teapot.
