Iron teapots traditionally used in Japan are known as tetsubin, which were used to boil water as well as brew tea. However, the Symmetry teapot is meant just for brewing, not for boiling on a stovetop. Old Dutch uses a specially purified cast iron for its teapots, and coats the insides with black enamel to help prevent rusting. Unlike ceramic teapots, the heavy cast iron retains heat wonderfully and won't chip. After use, the pot is best cared for when rinsed and dried by hand before storing. A stainless-steel infusing basket that hangs from the rim is included to facilitate brewing with loose tea leaves. --Ann Bieri

I had a smaller teapot that was nice but didn't make a lot of tea. I bought this one for a few reasons: first I like the cast iron idea (and it is enameled inside so you don't need to worry about your tea tasting like metal). Secondly, it matches my kitchen decor (I'm a guy: my plates and such are all semigloss black. What can I say?) Finally: It's big enough to make the amount of tea I want, but not so big I end up making too much. It works really well and is easy to clean. The insert lifts out and you can throw the used tea away easily without making a big mess in the sink. It keeps tea warm for quite some time, especially if you warm up the pot first which is usually recommended for any teapot. Simply pour some hot water in it (from the tap is fine) and let it sit while you boil your water and it should be pretty warm by the time you're ready to make your tea. I make a pot of tea when I wake up and when I get out of the shower I'm able to enjoy a ten ounce cup or so before I leave then I can pour the rest in my commuter mug and go. I don't really have anything negative to say about it, however, anyone with tendinitis or a similar condition may want to note: it's very heavy, even when empty.

I bought this for my boyfriend after he expressed interest in brewing his own tea. What a difference! We love this pot. It is very attractive and makes a great addition to the kitchen. It keeps the tea nice and hot. Make sure you rinse and dry the tea pot after every use.

Loved the look of the pot. First cup of green was great. Second cup came out jet black. seems like the enamel is cheep.
