Book Description

September 10, 2002 Old Farmer's Almanac, 2003
With its familiar yellow cover, The Old Farmer's Almanac is recognized not only as a reliable brand but also as a handy source of new, useful, and entertaining reading matter for every day — a fact demonstrated by annual sales of more than 4.2 million copies. The ageless appeal of the Almanac lies in its blend of timeless wit and wisdom and its broad editorial mix. Among the topics in the 2003 edition are the planet Mars; the magnificent part of our brain that is our memory; how to predict hurricanes, tornadoes, and other weather disasters; how to read tea leaves; household cures for life's little maladies; the wily willow tree; and our uncommonly accurate weather forecasts, precise astronomical information, and bounty of gardening tips and advice. As usual, the bookstore edition of the Almanac contains an exclusive 48-page reference section — chock-full of useful charts and data — that includes everything from the animal designations of the Chinese zodiac to how many trees are in a cord of wood.

5.0 out of 5 stars There's nothing "old" about it, July 8, 2003

This review is from: The Old Farmer's Almanac 2003 (Paperback)
At one time, no home in America was complete without an Almanac. While that tradition has faded, the book that started it all--The Old Farmer's Almanac--remains a useful and interesting resource; one that no home should be without. The Old Farmer's Almanac features everything that makes an Almanac an Almanac, including its sunrise and sunset times, tide tables, and weather predictions for the entire year (and most of the time I've found them to be right on!). Amongst these essential facts, there are an abundance of entertaining stories that range from the historical and scientific to home and garden tips and amusing antedotes. This book just offers so much and I know that once you pick up, you'll be hooked. I've always found something of interest in The Old Farmer's Almanac and can't wait because the new edition comes out in September!

3.0 out of 5 stars So much information I can only touch the surface., December 22, 2002
This review is from: The Old Farmer's Almanac 2003 (Paperback)
What I like about the Old Farmer's Almanac 2003 Western Edition is that all hours indicated are in Pacific Time Zone. There is so much information in this almanac I can only touch the surface. There is a section of What's IN this year for men and women, and what's OUT. In other words, what's cool this year and no longer cool. Find out the right days of each month to get your hair cut to encourage growth, when to plant your crops and when to start your diet. You'll find a list of holidays, eclipses lunar & solar to look for and fascinating meteor showers. You will have the time of sunrise/sunset and moonrise/moonset for each day and time correction for your area. There is even a convenient knob hole in the upper left-hand corner of the book for hanging it where you need it the most.
