Light, enjoyable reading. Great book to give as a gift, especially for the new homeowner/gardener. A good book to keep on the shelf for reference too!

Garden Wisdom, April 24, 2000
This review is from: Old-Fashioned Garden Wisdom: Tips, Lore and Good Advice for Creating a Beautiful, Healthy Garden (Hardcover)
Although I didn't get the gene for garden smarts, I lovedigging in the dirt and coveting the neighbors' geraniums. And, thanksto Larry Maxcy's Old-Fashioned GARDEN WISDOM, there's actually hopefor the planter boxes this year.
GARDEN WISDOM includes growing tips and tidbits of information on lots of green topics from soil and seedlings to plant lore and lawn care. Without being encyclopedic or pedantic, the author gives us practical planting advice with clues about critter control, plant diseases, and water conservation. He even throws in some interesting folklore on planting and fertility. Check out the section called "Sex in the Garden."
GARDEN WISDOM, published this year by Friedman/Fairfax, is a useful and charming guide to creating a beautiful, healthy garden. ... gardeners.
