4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining horror novel, June 17, 2002

Mick Winters returns home to settle the affairs of his late aunt and close up his childhood home. It has been years since he has visited the town or the old place and memories haunt him every where he goes. Especially disturbing are the childhood fears that begin to surface and take on a life of their own. Like the thing in the cellar, the giant spider in the culvert, the monster under the bed, and the evil in the town coal pit. Somehow these "old fears" are coming to life and feeding on the humans who invented them. And only one man knows the impossible truth as people begin to die at the hands of something evil...I read this years ago when it first came out and remembered it being pretty entertaining. I recently picked it back up and breezed through it in a few days. Recommended for horror fans who want a quick, entertaining read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Old Fears scared me beyond belief., August 9, 2000

This review is from: Old Fears (Paperback)
The stories contained in this book stike on the fears of our childhoods. Some of the childhood fears that this book makes references to are things like being afraid of the dark, afraid of going into small spaces like a culvert at the end of the driveway, or being afraid something is under our beds.

My favorite story in particular is the one about the boy in his room in bed. He's speaking to the monster under his bed and is under the impression that if he's under the covers, he's safe. That was not a correct assumption on the boy's part.

I highly recommend this book, but only for those who have enough courage to withstand the fears that are so intensely described in this book. For those of you who do not like intense horror stories, I wouldn't read this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Greatest book that I have ever read., January 12, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Old Fears (Paperback)
I was walking through my highschool library one fateful afternoon about four years ago looking for my next book report book. When I saw the book sitting on the bottom shelf in the very corner. So I read the cover and decided to get it. The book took me a day to read. I never put it down I couldn't. It explains people's fears and then there fears coming to life to haunt the people that had them. Some even resulting in death. I have read many novels on many different subjects and this book is a fun read that will leave you thinking......I've been looking to find this book to buy it for my own collection but I can't seem to find it. So If you are lucky enough to find it, please read it. You will thank me for it. If you own it and you want to part with it E-mail me.
