5.0 out of 5 stars Loved every song and old memory, September 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Old Friends New Memories (Audio CD)
I have all of Victoria Shaw's previous releases and she is not only a great songwriter but a great entertainer as well. Her strong vocals make this a pleasure from beginning to end. Some you'll remember as being big hits for other artists. She is incredible and I am so glad she continues to make good music.

Victoria Shaw is one of my favorite recording artists and musicians. I don't understand why more people don't know what a wonderful performer she is. Old Friends New Memories is another great CD by this extremely talented person. I was having trouble finding a copy of this CD. Thanks Amazon for coming through!

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding songwriter, lovely singer too, July 13, 2002
This review is from: Old Friends New Memories (Audio CD)
On this album (Victoria's third) you can hear four songs which went number one on the country charts for other singers, but all of them written by Victoria in collaboration with others. Like Matraca Berg, Victoria seems destined to be remembered just as a songwriter. Both have lovely voices and sing like angels, but when they were on major labels, their own records failed to make the upper chart positions required.

So, the famous songs here are The river (Garth Brooks), Too busy being in love (Doug Stone), She's every woman (Garth Brooks) and I love the way you love me (John Michael Montgomery, also a British pop hit for Boyzone). The Garth hits were jointly written by Victoria and Garth.

Yet these are not the only songs worth hearing. Waikiki cowboy also won a songwriter's award and it would not surprise me if it or one of the other songs here eventually joins the list of famous songs written by Victoria, who has also had other songs (not featured on this CD) recorded by several of country music's top names.

With royalties from her songwriting, Victoria does not need success as a singer, but she is every bit as good as many of those who are successful singers.
