4.0 out of 5 stars Old Haunts like an Old Friend February 17, 2012
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Verified Purchase
Fans of EJ Copperman (and even new converts) will be thrilled with the latest installment in his "Haunted Guesthouse" series. All their favorite characters are back, including a few new ones - and who doesn't love a trouble-making ex-husband? Copperman shows his skill at light mysteries with an entertaining read that never disappoints. His character development skills are top-notch, and the injected "dry" humor always delivers. If this is your first taste it's not necessary to read the books in order, but recommended if you want to keep the character's relationships straight. Those looking for a light read or some pure escapism will fnd it with EJ Copperman. All in all, OLD HAUNTS is like an old friend (or your snuggy blanket) - dependable, solid, and just what you need it to be - Rocco LoTempio, Night Owl Reviews

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Entertainment February 18, 2012
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Verified Purchase
Reading 'Old Haunts' was like sitting down and enjoying a chat with a good friend. If you have read the other novels in the series, as I have, you are already comfy with Sleuth Alison, her daughter, Melissa, and resident Haunts, Maxie and Paul. They are managing to live together in a lovely large home that is being remodeled into a guest house that specializes in ghost hauntings. This story is located on the Jersey Shore.

Maxie has a terrible shock, her former husband (short duration,) has been dug up from his resting place where a murderer put him...under a boardwalk. Paul, the other ghost, also wants a favor from Alison...please find my last love. Meanwhile Alison is dealing with the re-emergence of her former husband, and Father of Melissa...the Swine. Can it get more complicated for the new Private Investigator? Yes. It can and does. Will Alison save the day?

With Alison's clever wit and humor always present, the murderer doesn't stand a chance. Adding to the sense of carnival is the guesthouses guests. They want to see the ghosts up personal. Huh?

This is a fine cozy murder with a well researched ghost story. If you loved the movie and television show "Topper," you will adore this series. If you are not familiar with the go out and rent them. Excellent entertainment.

As for me? I will eagerly await the next installment of "A Haunted Guesthouse Mystery."

5.0 out of 5 stars spellbinding paranormal mystery February 7, 2012
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Following her divorce from her husband Steven Randall, who she called the "Swine", Alison Kerby and their ten year old daughter Melissa move to 123 Seafront Avenue. Rumors abound that this Jersey Shore place is haunted but Alison ignores them until after she and her offspring occupy the house.

Confined to her new residence are two sad ghosts, Maxie and Paul. The former wants to know who murdered her ex husband; and the latter misses his beloved. The two living females and Melissa's grandmother can see the spirits as they are ghost whisperers. Paul asks Alison to learn how the woman he was about to propose to when he died is doing; Maxie pleads with her to find out who murdered her husband of four days Robert. His bones are uncovered at Seaside Heights after being interred for years. Meanwhile the Swine arrives to visit his daughter; Alison knows the pig has an ulterior motive so expects crap. Meanwhile the police arrest Maxie's mother for the murder of Robert; the grieving ghost asks Alison to uncover the real killer.

The third Haunted Guesthouse paranormal mystery (see An Uninvited Ghost and Night of the Living Deed) is an entertaining and spellbinding tale in which the ghosts come across as real as each brings melancholy and humor. Alison is overwhelmed with so many in need of her help; she tries to her best though at the moment in her personal life she would prefer peace, which ironically the living Swine is the one to nuke it. Readers will enjoy Old Haunts as the supermom relocates, raises her daughter and handles the requests of her ghostly tenants while wishing a live-buster would lock the swine in a pen on the West Coast.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ghosts with the most March 1, 2012
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Alison Kerby's Victorian guest house at the Jersey Shore is already filled to bursting -- there's her 10-year-old daughter, Melissa, as well as a senior citizens' tour group, and, oh yeah, the two resident ghosts -- when an unwelcome visitor shows up at her door: her ex-husband, whom she started referring to as The Swine after he left her to run off to California with a Barbie look-a-like. Her ex seems intent on reconciling with his family, and convincing Melissa that he's the "fun" parent, but Alison suspects he may have more nefarious motives. Still, she can't spend too much time worrying about the Swine when both of her ghosts are depressed. After all, without their cooperation in staging perfectly timed "hauntings," those lucrative tour groups may stop coming, and since the Swine is behind in his child support payments, Alison needs the money.

Paul, who worked as a private eye before his untimely demise, has persuaded Alison to take over his job, and now he wants her to track down the woman he had planned to propose to. Unfortunately, she seems to have disappeared entirely, and Alison doesn't yet have the skills or connections to find her. Mercurial Maxie is despondent when she finds that her ex-husband -- well, they were married for a few days after a quickie Vegas wedding -- has been murdered. The ghosts can't leave Alison's property, the site of their deaths, so it's up to her to go out into the "real world" and report back to her spooks. When Maxie's very-much-alive mom Kitty is accused of killing her departed daughter's ex, the case becomes even more personal for Alison.

Obviously, any book which features two ghosts as main characters isn't going to be a gritty, realistic crime thriller. But E.J.
