My house is 100 years old and it is under partially renovation. I thought I may be able to get some good ideas from this magazine. It is a very thin magazine with the same advertisements in each issue. I receive 3 issues at once, one current, the other 2 go back 4 months. I wasnt too happy about that either. So far, it is more decorating, less renovation. No before and after picture of projects that incorporate a totally new floor plan.

There is a trend now among flippers and re-"muddlers" to buy gorgeous old homes and then gut and "modernize" the interiors. As an old house lover from the early '70s, I remember hearing of the frustration of people who bought old Victorians only to learn they had been stripped of all character by previous remuddlers. Now that disgusting practice is rearing it's ugly head again. I cannot tell you how many beautiful old cottages and estates in my area have been purshased by people who watch way too much HGTV and have removed walls, put in ultra modern kitchens and baths and generally ruined the once proud houses they bought. If you own, or want to own, an old house and reSTORE it while still making it liveable, this is the magazine for you. I read every issue from cover to cover and find so many useful tips and techniques that I end up keeping every one. I cannot recommend this highly enough.

I bought one or two issues of this mag. before from a news stand, so I thought I'd subscribe. Unfortunately, my four-issue-subscription turned into them just sending me two back issues that I already had bought months ago, and a notice that my subscription was due again. Really? Before I ever received a new issue, I'm only two issues away from being finished with my year-long subscription? I guess this might work (might!) if you had never bought an issue - if "New to You" is good enough - but if they are going to do this, I wish they would have said so. I wouldn't have wasted my time and money. (Which is why I guess they didn't!) I also wish I had read all the reviews of the subscription side of things before I signed up, but lesson learnt, and I'll add my two cents in for the next person who is considering subscribing.

Absolutely great hands-on information as well as fascinating histories of old houses. It's not about how to update, but how to preserve your home. I couldn't put the first issue down until I had read the whole thing!

Great DIY projects on a budget, and I love the photos! For more photos of old houses, their website[...] features most of their home tours.

Old House Journal is a great publication that gives great insight and motivation for those really into older home restoration, preservation, and renovation. Ranges from complete and accurate restoration to new spaces that complement the existing and allow for modern conveniences/lifestyles. Great regular reading material.

The 3 stars are for the magazine itself. We also live in a house over a 100 years old and the magazine really wasn't a lot of help to us either, we did not renew.

I wish Amazon offered a way that we could also review and rate the business practices that are used. I don't know if what we went through is a direct practice or they don't have an idea about it because it is outsourced, honestly the publisher should be aware of this regardless.

We use our cell phones for most communication but kept a land line for additional communications, mainly for the purpose of emergencies. The phone is in an out of the way room and has an answering machine attached so when somebody calls on that line we are almost always not close enough to answer before the answering machine comes on and we know that it is unlikely to be anybody we know anyway.

For the last two months we have been getting phone calls from an Ebsco Teleservice, twice a day, they never leave a message. I used the government Do Not Call service to block the first number but they went to a second number and was unable to block the second number they used, didn't understand why because I had never done business with an Ebsco Teleservice.

So today I just happened to be close by the phone when they called and as soon as I heard the words "this is about your subscription to Old House Journal", I was furious. I don't care what the call was about, whether about my opinion of the magazine, renewing or even if they wanted to offer the next year free, you don't call and harass people for two months, twice a day. As soon as I heard that it was about this magazine I told them not to call again and hung up.

Not only will I never subscribe to this magazine ever again, I will not subscribe to any magazine published by Active Interest Media.

I was pretty excited to find this magazine online and wanted to subscribe until I read ALLOW 12-16 weeks for delivery. Columbus could have delivered the magazine sooner.

If you have bought an older house and want inspriration and motivation to keep up the remodeling this magazine is great. Not too many ads like some of the other magazines.
