This is a wonderful book - for the mom of a two year old boy who loves animals, Old McDonald and tools - this book couldn't be better. He loves the noises, the illustration and the story. I love to see how excited he gets. A wonderful twist on Old McDonald had a Farm

This book is definitely worth having. Our 2 1/4 year old son (who likes tools and loves music) loved the twist on a familiar and loved song. The depiction of Old MacDonald as a sheep and as a female!!!! who has a woodshop!!!! makes this a must have book to balance out, for both boys and girls, the lack of gender-neutral characters and over representation of gender-stereotypes that is ubquitious in both books and songs. The sounds used for the various tools are not that good so you may want to make up your own but otherwise the pictures and text are good and what Old MacDonald and the animals are building makes for a cute surprise ending.

This book is GREAT! My son is totally addicted to the story, and the inside back and front cover with all the great detailed tool illustrations.
He particularly loves the injured goat in the middle. Great book for a little tool-a-holic, who also likes animals (and most kids like animals). The surprise ending also amuses my son to no end.

A different take on Old MacDonald, but after reading this I have all kinds of ideas. For a music class you can use all kinds of hand instructments to make the sounds. I think this will end up be a very fun book to work with.

Grandpa's Favorite,

Because I have my own wood shop and make toys for my grandkids I was attracted to this book when I first saw it. I have given it to my grandkids and to the grandkids of many of my friends and neighbors. The reports I haven gotten back from those who have received it tell me that it is their child's favorite book. The kids love the animals and especially the sounds the tools make. They also are able to learn the names of the tools used in the book. It just might spark an interest in creating wood objects for some of these children.

Alternative Old McDonald,

We came across this in our daughter's playgroup and had to own it -- it's a lovely version of the old song but integrates "non-standard" gender views by letting female animals take charge in the woodshop. The sounds accompanying each tool are wonderful, as are the illustrations. Our two-year old loves it and wants to spend more time in the garage now!
