music teacher loves Mr. Mackle Hackle!,
By Martie Muldoon (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Old Mr. Mackle Hackle (Audio CD)
"Old Mr. Mackle Hackle" has become my students' favorite musical treat! I teach music in elementary school, grades 1-5, and there is something for everyone on this album. The younger students beg for "Tiny Mosquito", the older students can relate to "I'm a little Twerp", and my personal favorite is "Evelyn's Way". I especially appreciate the wide variety of musical styles on this album -- from reggae to baroque to boogie woogie, there are styles and moods to meet any interest. Gunnar Madsen is a wonderfully versatile singer, and I highly recommend this album to anyone with children (or anyone without!)

The best kids' album for adults!,

This review is from: Old Mr. Mackle Hackle (Audio CD)
My three-year-old daughter loves this album alright, but my wife and I can't get these tunes out of our heads. This is the best, most original collection of kid songs ever put together. With such diverse selections as "Summertime," "Tiny Mosquito," and "Old Mr. Mackle Hackle," the album presents an amazing display of musical styles. And the off-beat lyrics should delight even the most jaded of parents. Gunnar Madsen's message is, "have fun!"; thanks for reminding us!

Ol' Mr. Madsen,

I wasn't sure how I would likea "children's album", but having loved "The Power of a Hat" I couldn't wait to hear "Old Mr Mackle Hackle". I've barely stopped smiling since. The song's are clever and cheerful, The music is catchy and inventive, and the singing is spectacular.I can't resist "Evelyn Way", with it's fun-filled attitude that draws me right in. The music in "The Dinasaur Song" fits a perfect mood for the content of the amusing lyrics. The title track sticks in my brain all day, it's that good.I am especially crazy about the way he sings all the song's' but in particular "Tiny Mosquito" gives me goosebumps from the voice itself. This album is sure to be enjoyed by adults and children alike, from ages 1 to 101.

Let's all sing along!,

Both my kids took to this CD instantly. I think they have been listening to it almost non-stop since we got it. When we are away from the music it has been a pleasure hearing the 6-year old singing Elephant Traffic Jam and the 2-year old sing "... ha ha hee the Evelyn way!..." Unlike many children's songs that get trapped in your brain and won't come out until you think you'll go postal. Gunnar's songs are wonderful works that I enjoy having banging around in my skull. This album is great for adults and kids a like.

Old Mr. Mackle-Hackle is a delightful addition to any family, school or community library children's music collection.

This CD is not just for children,

Having enjoyed Mr. Madsen's last two CDs, I picked this one up not knowing quite what to expect, particularly since it is touted as a children's album. Suffice to say, anybody who enjoyed "The Power of a Hat" or any of the albums Gunnar did with The Bobs will absolutely love this album. It's stuffed with Mr. Madsen's own particularly quirky brand of humor, and both the humor and the compositions are sophisticated enough for any adult to enjoy. I've listened to this album a dozen times in the last week alone -- it's exactly what I need to get a smile on my face while I'm at work.

My kids and I have been listening to this on and off for over 5 years and it is still fresh and makes us laugh and feel good. We love "Ants in my Pants" too. This guy is a genius.

This is the best kids CD ever!,

I am the mother of twin 2 1/2 year old boys so we listen to alot of music in the car. This CD is unbelievably entertaining (which says alot considering I have to listen to it over and over!). Our boys love it and so adults. We find ourselves singing "I'm just a tiny mosquito" all the time which is the kids favorite. Madsen's lyrics are hilarious for the ault listeners, and inventive and comical for children. He is like the Jim Carey of children's music. Some songs are making fun of opera, others jazz, still others are wistful. He should win some award for this one. A must if you have to have children's music! And guess what, you can throw away all those other dreadful tapes away!

Not Just for Children,

My wife and I chuckled with Tiny Mosquito and roared with Dinosaur. This is an album you can enjoy with or without your kids. And the level of humor is both on an adult and kid's level, with many references an adult will understand but kids will just enjoy subliminally. Highly recommended, you can take it as a circus on a Spike Jones or Monty Python level, wherever you want to go.
