Editorial Reviews

Seven long and agonizing years have finally come to an end, as Old Mornings Dawn the highly anticipated 2013 album by the cult band Summoning is here. The majestic and diverse hymns are a monument of epic proportions and are beyond comparison in each and every second. SUMMONING's Epic Black Metal is the perfect soundtrack for a world filled with legendary characters, massive strongholds and breathtaking landscapes. Old Mornings Dawn marks the glorious return of a band, who has already become a legend in its own right.

This music is not a tribute to Tolkien alone! This is the foggy breath of cold arboreal mountains, the piercing warmth of morning sunrays through ancient oak trees, the rush of water across stone. You might as well be shambling without a trail through dark undergrowth down into a canyon valley hoping to emerge and spot the sun from a rocky ledge overlooking eternity. Summoning does not create a companion to a fantasy novel, but a link between the fantastic and the natural world in my opinion. I cannot see anyone not listening to Summoning, enjoying it thoroughly and then being motivated to environmentalist action.

Forgive me if my following statements sound over-indulgent, but I would not be the person I am today were it not for Summoning walking into my life back in 2000 with "Stronghold". They were not the be all end all of my genesis into who I am as a person, but their album was the final brick, the last piece of the puzzle. Though I would only fully realize it as I moved into adulthood, the art of these 2 Austrian musicians would seal me onto the path of a fantasy illustrator, wiccan, naturalist, and forever an appreciator of the classically bombastic and the atmospheric experience in art, nature, escapism, and music.

I feel I am not the only one. There is a multitude of musicians and listeners out there who take the experience Summoning give with much individual personal joy and passion, devising our own worlds to free ourselves and relying on Protector and Silenius to provide the soundtrack that opens the gates. Many in our own ways have responded with reviews, forums, buying their albums, uploading our sad obsessed faces to videoreviews, even writing our own music. It's undeniable that Summoning have managed to maintain a significant fanbase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply awesome June 14, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Finally, Summoning has a new release, and it was well worth the wait. I have to say that Summoning is a band that you cannot go wrong with, even with the long waiting periods between releases, this is a perfect example with this one. From opening to last track, it is an epic masterpiece that never gets old. My only gripe is that on Earthshine, it sounds like Protector is saying " ...a frosty chocolate shake"... other than that it is perfect.

Finally its here been waiting for years but it's finally finished Old Mornings Dawn is freaking epic Summoning still has it in them these guys haven't changed a bit I mean it sounds like all the other album's they've done in the past which is good cause bands usually age and cause them to suck later on in years but not Summoning this album is just brilliant from the Protector's vocals all the way to the epic viking like drums its all perfect recommend to any Summoning fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Epic tales to be told... July 19, 2013
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
I wander from the frozen wastes at the roof of the world where the ancients left their marks, to the deepest places of the earth. Now I have a soundtrack for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Summoning didn't change June 25, 2013

Well, okay, they did. The sound here is heavier than on the past three albums, and more reminiscent of their Dol Guldur days - while still preserving the later melodism. But this is very recognizably Summoning, so if you liked their past releases, this is a must have.
