Katherine Sorrell demonstrates the art of creating a home where old and new live in harmony, and shows how to add interest with unexpected or individual pieces. The main part of the book, Spaces, looks at each room, showing how to mix objects to create a home that is original, comfortable, prectical, and stylish. The hints in Getting It Right include choosing larger items with classic lines and understated colors, and introducing light-hearted touches. Having spent a childhood making things from scraps of fabric, egg boxes and washing up liquid bottles, Katherine has now progressed to collecting craft and writing about interiors and design.
In between she did an English degree, spent four years as a news reporter on a local tabloid and worked as a researcher at the BBC. A stint at Elle Decoration magazine confirmed her youthful enthusiasm for all things to do with making and decorating, and she went on to become Features Editor at Homes & Gardens.
Katherine was commissioned to write her first book, The Ultimate Home Style Guide, in 1997, and since then she has written 15 more, on houses, style, collecting and craft. She is about to start work on her 17th.
In 2002 Katherine moved to Cornwall, where she now lives with her family.
