How the plague and Great Fire of London affected people,
By Carole F. (Washington DC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Old Saint Paul's (Bestsellers of Literature) (Paperback)
I've read and reread this book every few years since it was reissued in 1968. It describes in riveting detail how the Plague and Great Fire of London affected the common folks. Ignore the fact that this is a historical romance set in London; I love it for the research and imagery that made Harrison Ainsworth one of the most popular novelists of Victorian times.
