The Baritone in all his varied glory..., January 30, 2004
This review is from: Old Refrain (Audio CD)
This CD is a perfect introduction to the songs Nelson Eddy loved best - beautiful melodies with beautiful lyrics which, though old, are just as meaningful and sweet now as when they were written. Some music simply never becomes dated.
It's hard to pick a favourite from this CD, because they are all wonderful for different reasons. There is "The Pilgrim's Song", into which Nelson infuses incredible feeling: somehow, he captures the exultant emotions of the pilgrim and passes them on to us who are listening. I also particularly like "Because", "Jeannie With the Light Brown Hair", and the "Russian Easter Hymn". I won't go into elaborate detail on each song and why it is beautiful. Words sometimes cannot explain what one must feel in one's soul. Nelson's voice is a true gift to humanity and I trust it will always be loved by all who love beautiful things.
I think this CD is a must have for anyone who loves good music, and would also recommend "Through the Years".

The Old Refrain, July 17, 2008
This review is from: Old Refrain (Audio CD)
No other baritone is better looking and has a smoother voice than this
singer of the 30's and he still has a loyal following.

Surprised!, June 24, 2008
This review is from: Old Refrain (Audio CD)
We have long been Nelson Eddy fans. "The Old Refrain" contains many of our old favorites plus several songs we had not heard recorded by Nelson Eddy before; e.g. "Panis Angelicus" and "Short'nin' Bread". We are very pleased with our purchase.
