5.0 out of 5 stars Best Ever, June 29, 2010
This review is from: Old Smokey Charcoal Grill #22 (Large)
I have owned several bbq pits, and this is the best one I have ever used. I don't use charcoal in it, I prefer mesquite chunks. The food is delicious, the grill is versatile, easy to clean, long-lasting, and just plain fun to use. An old friend recommended this grill to me many years ago and I didn't like it because it looked malformed. When I decided to buy a new grill I purchased the Old Smokey due to its cheap price and reviews I read on Amazon. IMMEDIATELY I fell in love with it. The big lid lets you cook almost anything in it. I have also begun to grill fruit and veggies on it, and of course meat. Fish is delicious cooked in an Old Smokey. Besides versatility, its light and I can move it, or carry it, anywhere. Its aluminum coated body makes it extremely durable. Its extremely user friendly. What more can I say except BUY THIS GRILL? BELIEVE ME, YOU WILL ENJOY IT.

5.0 out of 5 stars Novice Griller, May 11, 2010
This review is from: Old Smokey Charcoal Grill #22 (Large)
I was looking for an inexpensive way to smoke and grill large meats like whole turkeys and pork shoulders without the high cost of a big ceramic cooker. The Old Smokey is just the ticket. My first time out I cooked beer can turkey (12 pounder) in the 22" and it came out moist and delicious and it only took 2 1/2 to 3 hours. The crowd I was feeding raved about the taste. Once you get the right amount of hardwood lump charcoal and wood chips, the Old Smokey does the rest. Highly recommend this little gem of a grill cooker.

I recommend anyone that is getting a grill get one of these. They are the best grill i have ever ran across charcoal wise. Its got a huge cooking surface, perfect for outdoor barbecues. Cooks the food evenly and gives off that wonderful charcoal grill taste YUMMY.

Just got our Old Smokey 22" yesterday. I boned and marinated a chicken and cooked over direct heat lid on, with hickory chips on the coals. This unit really moves the smoke over the food. This unit gets extremely hot yet the coals are far from the cooking grate so there were no flareups. The chicken came out incredibly juicy with crisp skin, great grill marks, and not burnt at all. I think that the shape of the unit with the flat top has something to do with the great way it cooks. Also the coal tray keeps a lot of air moving underneath creating a very hot burn.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Charcoal Grill, April 25, 2010

I am very satisfied with the Old Smokey Grill. It has plenty of headroom to do beer can chicken. I am able to get a more even heat distribution than I was with a Weber. There is plenty of room to put the coals on either side of a drip pan. I have even built the fire on one side and left the other side empty to cook with both direct heat and indirect at the same time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful bbq chicken, July 13, 2008
This review is from: Old Smokey Charcoal Grill #22 (Large)
These cookers are great for slow-cooked bbq chicken. Marinate chicken in olive oil and Tony's overnight, then cook for 1:30 to 2:00, turning every fifteen minutes. The smokers really create a great smokey flavor. Thanks to my Uncle Ray, I love my old smokey.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great buy., November 23, 2008

This is a great grill! We've had this exact grill for years and this one was bought to replace that one.
Even after 5 years, and a couple replacement parts, the older one was still perfectly usable, but was left behind in a move. Then we realized how much we couldn't live without it..

5.0 out of 5 stars update, June 11, 2011
This review is from: Old Smokey Charcoal Grill #22 (Large)
I reviewed this grill earlier, but I thought I might give you an update. I'm still all thumbs up on it. Notice the reviews, 10 of them now and not a negative one in the bunch. I have started to use Kingsford's charcoal instead of wood, and it gives me a longer heat. I keep the smoker on the carport, and it has held up really well. The grill is solid, the fire pan is a little warped, but still does the job just as well now as when I got it. I still think this is the greatest grill in the world. I looked at one of those thousand dollar Chinese egg cookers the other day, and if the store had offered me a trade I would have been insulted. "Do you think I would trade my Old Smokey for THAT? What kind of fool do you think I am???" You see, its not a great grill "for the price." Its the best grill at ANY price.

This is a nice smoker. It's the very first time I had used a smoker. I didn't realize how big this smoker was until it came into the mail. This 22" is for a party. The 18" is more for a family. I was able to smoke a Turkey for Thanksgiving which came out very good. The only downside to this smoker is that there isn't a temperature gauge included. So, I had to buy one and drill a hole into the top of the smoker. Other then that if you're looking for an inexpensive charcoal smoker this is the one for you.
