5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing reference!
A truly amazing reference for any Hebrew student. This book lists _every single_ verb in the entire Hebrew Bible and breaks it down according to its aspects. I can't even imagine all the work that went into preparing this book -- but it certainly saved me a significant amount of time in my studies!

3.0 out of 5 stars Worst book binding ever encountered
This is a fine reference for Hebrew Bible verb parsing, but the book binding is absolutely terrible. The book does not stay open and the pages fall off when one tries to keep it stay open. 5.0 out of 5 stars great tool, but a word of caution to beginners..., June 11, 2004

This review is from: Old Testament Parsing Guide: Revised and Updated Edition (Paperback)
The toughest thing for beginners of Biblical Hebrew is not so much the syntax, but the morphology. This volume is what some experts may consider a "crutch"-an otherwise helpful book that can have serious repercussions on a beginner. A word of caution to beginners in reading BH: Do not purchase this book until you have had about 3 semesters or more of graduate-level biblical Hebrew. Why? Because this work, as I state above, can be a "crutch" to new-comers in that it parses every single verb and participle in the Hebrew OT, thereby giving the student instantaneous access to a skill that should probably be attained via arduous study. It will pay off in the long run to be able to parse a verb on one's own without this parsing tool. One reason I have it is for checking my work, and also for it's relatively quick one, sometimes two-word English definitions that accompany each entry. I recommend the book for those who have a firm grasp of reading Biblical Hebrew for its quick-reference capabilities, but I recommend it with some reservation for novices.

A new and better binding edition (possibly hard cover) is sorely needed because this book should serve as a lifelong companion to the Hebrew Bible for non-scholars to read the Old Testament in the original language. Rating of the book is the average of 5 (for the content) plus 1 (for binding) divided by 2 equaling 3 stars.

Addition to my previous comment.
Be aware, Buyers! I have contacted the publisher about the poor quality biding problem, and they don't care about the concern. You may be spending more money than bargained for, because of the problem, if you want to keep using the book - I did!

5.0 out of 5 stars Say Goodbye to Biblical-Hebrew-Phobia, July 26, 2006
This review is from: Old Testament Parsing Guide: Revised and Updated Edition (Paperback)
What we had to spend hours for translating a single verse from the original Hebrew text before can be done in a few minutes under your fingertip now. Every verb in every verse of every chapter in every book of the OT is parsed with stem, tense, PGN (person/gender,number) and root. It's time-saving, efficient, and handy. A necessary tool for scholars and pastors.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Quick Reference, December 6, 2009
This review is from: Old Testament Parsing Guide: Revised and Updated Edition (Paperback)
Geared for the bible college student or the seminarian, this resource will nonetheless be helpful for those brave souls teaching themselves Hebrew.

A one-volume update of the two volume edition, The purpose of the current edition is to provide a verse-by-verse parsing aid for every verb in the OT. Every verb form is listed in order of occurrence in the OT according to chapter and verse. Verbs that occur twice in a verse are parsed twice.

This tool is based on the Hebrew text in the Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia.

A great time saver (and parsing checker) but do not use this as a crutch!

4.0 out of 5 stars Old Testament Parsing Guide: Revised and Updated Edition, July 26, 2007
This review is from: Old Testament Parsing Guide: Revised and Updated Edition (Paperback)
The parsing of all OT verbs comes in handy with a parsing guide like this. Even though beginners should not over-depend on such tool when learning Biblical Hebrew, it is still good to have a well-printed book like this for easy reference.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works, but practically obsolete... for computer users, February 5, 2009
This review is from: Old Testament Parsing Guide: Revised and Updated Edition (Paperback)
I increased my score from 2 to 4...I don't devalue the book, but just acknowledging that there are tools that do the same thing in a digital format.

Fine book, but rediculously hard to use in comparison to simply hovering over the word in Logos or Bibleworks or other Bible Study programs. I would say that 90% of those taking Greek and Hebrew at a seminary are required to have a program like Accordance, Bibleworks, or Logos... so it serves no useful purpose, except to those who do not have such a program or those who simply would rather have a book (I understand that!) and printed matter before them. :)
