By Lynn Walker (Providence, RI United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Old Time Religion (Audio CD)
Explosive gospel (even though songs repeat). Paul Foster(later with Soul Stirrers, remember his call & response with Sam Cooke?) sings great lead with Golden Echoes and the Detroiters' Little Ax Broadnax (originally from Spirit of Memphis) soars and cries with his matchless tenor. These groups may not be as famous as some other gospel groups of the post-war era, but their credentials are right on top. Great material, great voices, only caveat is that songs repeat on this CD and once it appears somebody forgot their lyrics on song "Old Time Religion", but still worth buying. A nice combination of sweet and "hard" gospel sound - inspiring. |
