About Old Town
Old Town has a long tradition of innovative technology, dating back to 1898, when the company built its first wood-and-canvas canoe, based on a Native American birch bark design. In 1940, the company rendered the traditional seal-skin kayak design in more durable wood-and-canvas, and later introduced lightweight fiberglass models in the '50s.

Today, Old Town continually strives to advance the art of paddling through design improvements and lighter, more durable materials, such as three-layer polyethylene and Superlinear technologies.

I use it for photography and it is very stable and tracks well.

Love the rod holders in the back and there is enough room in the cockpit for me and a big tackle box.

I knew what I wanted, and did my research. I wanted a fishing kayak, one that was a little shorter, that I could easily hoist on my shoulder, and walk a decent distance without killing myself. I am 6", 225 lbs, and slightly bulging in the middle. and I also needed one that would be able to accommodate me as well as whatever I need, according to what I am doing. When this kayak arrived I was impressed at the workmanship and overall quality upon getting it out on the water I am simply amazed. The cockpit is spacious and easy to get into. The dashboard with cup holder and two cavities were very well spaced, with the lowest part of the wall going into the cockpit (if something drops, it will probably drop into the cockpit.) I was so comfortable that I spent large portions of the day just sitting, watching my bobber do absolutely nothing, and feeling no ill will about it. At first I was a little unsteady, had not been in a kayak in 7 years or so. After a little time I was gliding smoothly, able to access all parts of the boat including the elastic rigging in front without rocking. I meant my first trip out to simply get used to how the kayak moved, figured I would just paddle around all day, getting comfortable. I brought the tackle and pole, but did not think I would use them. Within an hour I was kicking myself for not rigging my anchor so that I could fish without drifting around. I planned to stay out for 3 hours, when that 3 hours was done I wanted to stay out for the rest of the night. The adjustable seat was more comfortable then I could have hoped, as I got no numbness, tingling or strain. This kayak tracks like a dream, when you hit a decent amount of speed it moves like it has a motor. Turning is easy, as well as spinning in place.
I recommend this kayak, ample space and comfort for a bigger guy, nice usable dashboard, and plenty of capacity and room to bring whatever you need.
Love it, can't wait until tomorrow, going out again.

My Old Town Vapor 10 is awsome. I am new to kayaking and test drove both a sit in and a sit on top before making my purchase. I love the openness of the sit on but the warmth of the sit in. I decided on this kayak because of the open cockpit and I do not regret it at all. It's like having a little of both types of kayaks. It is closed in enough that I stay warm in the cooler temps and is open enough to be able to feel the air circulating around me. I am able to recline back and put my feet up on top when I've been sitting too long for my legs. It's very easy to reposition myself whenever I want to. The only thing I would change is the molded paddle rest is too far forward to be comfortable for me. I am 5'3" so I have a shorter reach. I also weigh 210 lbs and still I do not sit down in the water very deeply. I use it for photography and it is very stable and tracks well. It is very comfortable and I can spend the whole day just putting around the edges of lakes shooting nature but when needed I can move across the water quickly and cleanly. I was actually able to move up beside a baby water turtle to within arms reach! I can't say enough about this kayak and I would definatley recommend it. My husband even wants to take it from me and he's 6'1". There may be a 2nd Vapor in our future! :)

I do a lot of fishing down by the sacramento river and wanted to get into some kayak fishing.
I had an Ocean side kick (made for an adult plus one child) and it was great for what it was....but unfortunately was the equivalent to a floating barge. Very slow and not the most maneuverable. So I got this thing.

I'm not gonna pretend like I'm Mr. Kayak or anything....I've only had a chance to try out a few different models, but I have to tell you, I was really impressed with this thing. For its small length, its pretty darn fast. I have friends with 12 and 16 footers, and I keep up just fine. Very maneuverable as well.

The flushmount rod holders are great. The space in the back holds my little radio, my lunch and my fishing tackle perfectly. If you are inexperienced, it feels a little wobbly at first, but after a little adjustment, you can almost stand up in it. I did a few times.

The seat is nice and comfortable compared to the other kayaks I've tried. It has an anchor system as well. Now this feature I really can't comment on, because honestly, I find it kind of useless, out on the river anyway. It may be more useful in shallower/calmer waters.

Anyway, great boat. Nice color too....with the black seat and the cammo, it looks very tacticool.

I've had this kayak for nearly a year now and I love it! I mainly use it for fishing in the Gulf of Mexico, but, have taken it on rivers, lakes and exploring the backwater marshes in my area. This kayak tracks straight with very little course deviation, even with strong currents, crosswinds and directional wind changes. Also very easy to maneuver, even in as shallow as 5" of water with a maze of rocks all around. The cockpit is open and roomy enough that I can have my tackle box, bait container and other items within easy reach and still have room to stretch my legs and not feel cramped. The only negatives, in my opinion, are the seat, the anchor system and the location of the drain plug. Two cushions, one for the back and one for the buttocks, are a must if you plan on staying on the water for more than 30 minutes. The trolley system that is on the kayak is much too short to anchor in any kind of wind or current and is very difficult to position in the direction you wish to face. Put a bow to stern anchor trolley on and you'll spend more time fishing than repositioning every 5 minutes. Find an area to put a new drain plug in that you can comfortably drain the water without feeling as if you are training for a position on the Olympic contortionist team. Overall, I'd recommend this kayak to anyone who wants to have fun on the water.
