Harlan Quinn's latest police assignment has him returning to the small town where he grew up in Colorado. He's the new sheriff. To make matters even more interesting his neighbor is none other than his best friend and high school lover Danny.

Danny Avers is teaching American History to eighth graders at the local middle school. He's been living a quiet life in the small town that has never forgiven him for the accident years earlier that claimed the lives of six of his friends.

Quinn isn't thrilled with the thought of being back in Hotchkiss, Colorado. He'd been a bit of a hell raiser in his youth and knows very well that the residents of this town have long memories. He fully intends to move into his rental house with his dog just long enough to finish the job he came back to accomplish and then return to Denver. After spending time with Danny, Quinn knows he doesn't want to live without him again. Danny has a career and life in Hotchkiss, but he's had to hide who he truly is and ignore his own desires just to be accepted. What will happen when Quinn and Danny's relationship is brought out into the open?

Dan and Quinn are men with a haunted past together, which their home town never forgave. Dan stayed behind trying to rebuild his life and live down the past while Quinn left. Years after Quinn returned with a hidden agenda.
They met, were reunited and their passion and love rekindled. But of course the town never forgave or forgot.
I love this M/M from Tortuga. Unlike most of her usual, the sex is toned down and she does a marvellous job building up the emotions. The love and care these 2 have for each other shines through and there is a warmth and heartwarming sweetness in their love as they try to live a normal life despite the hate and accusations.
I find the ending, though expected in a romance, most pleasing. And you just have to love the sexy front cover!

It's been a while since I went looking for m/m stories, so I thought it was a good time to go forth and investigate what was out there. I've tried the "gay psychic detective" stories and been burned, so I thought to drop the "psychic" part and see if I improved anything. It didn't. I haven't been this flabbergasted about a book in a good while.

There was so much promise, and yet... and yet, all this author seemed to want to do was sex. And it wasn't even good smut! Sometimes I was confused with "Who's on top and What's on second." That's really sad, considering I'm usually really good about figuring positions and whatnot. And, okay, so I liked the fact that these were two guys that would be switch hitters and were willing to play the game like that, but seriously? I'm looking for a bit more when the cheapest I can get one of these books is ten bucks. What am I looking for specifically? Oh, I dunno, plot? A good time? A novel idea? Did get this in this book? No. I didn't. I got an interesting style of story-telling, a couple good one-liners, and about a page and a half of really transparent plot that was solved OFF SCREEN! And my gods, some of the dialog, especially the `hot' dialog was downright repetitive. I'm sorry, but when I shell out a twenty to get a book, I expect to have something that's going to entertain me. I'm just saying that there were some golden opportunities here.

The only `real' character here was Danny, which is sad seeing as his main role in this story was as half of a couple. I had no sense of Quinn, and honestly? I didn't need to in order to read the smut, which filled this to such capacity that I was literally skimming it by the end.

And, seeing as this is Torquere Press we're talking about, there's the obligatory bad spelling/grammar issues that even I notice.

...on the upside, there were no feelings gushing, no kisses that healed, and no soulmates. And the build up was nice, but once they started to 'consumate their affair' as it were, it got real boring real fast. So, there's that.
