About the Author

Patricia McKee-Kastl has been telling young children stories for over 40 years as a Montessori teacher. She has lived in Iran, India, and England and now lives in a suburb of Washington, D.C., where she is called Miss Tish or Grandma Tish by her young friends and relations. This is her first published story.

This beautifully illustrated book is a lovely story about the value of seeing things for yourself and not letting others form your opinions. The children in my early childhood center so enjoyed this book and they have pondered the illustrations and asked for the story again and again. It's gentle message is a good one for young and old.

I bought this book for my 4-year-old grandson. He listened very carefully and studied the pictures as we went along. We talked about people not always being what they appear to be, and how some people that seem scary at first, aren't scary after we get to know them. This is a good lesson for him, as he has an adult cousin who is disabled and looks and sounds different. I'll reread this book to him again.
