Book Description

September 1998
As with her two previous best-selling books, OUT TO PASTURE (BUT NOT OVER THE HILL) and OVER WHAT HILL? NOTES FROM THE PASTURE, author Effie Leland Wilder's third installment offers her loyal readers another testimony to living life to the fullest - no matter what your age.

OLDER BUT WILDER chronicles the further adventures of the irrepressible Hattie McNair. Although she's recovering from knee replacement surgery, that doesn't stop her from getting involved in a mystery, lending her hand to some money-making schemes, or meddling - good-naturedly, of course! - in her young friend Amanda's life. Hattie's descriptions of life at FairAcres Retirement Home are written with grace and humor. Through Hattie and her cohorts, Wilder gently pokes fun at growing older, while reflecting on the special wisdom gained from aging as well as its challenges and losses.

Editorial Reviews

Review

[Effie Wilder] has the writer's eye and the storyteller's gift. Her tales are wry, funny, melancholy, philosophical. Her reflections strike a common chord. -- Syndicated columnist James Kilpatrick

5.0 out of 5 stars Want a Great Time?, October 15, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Older But Wilder: More Notes from the Pasture (Hardcover)
If you want a great time be sure and read all three of Effie Wilders books about Hattie McNair and her FairAcres gang. It is most enjoyable. I read all three. I hope she writes more. It makes me understand my Mom more. It almost makes me want to move to a retirement home. Granted there are sad times but also lots of good times. You find out how loving and helpful people are. Have some fun and read this book.

This review is from: Older But Wilder: More Notes from the Pasture (Hardcover)
The seller was very prompt in sending out this book. Older but Wilder is a delightful little book, sure to amuse. It is a gentle book with great insights to the "older" population which, hopefully, we'll all become one of these days.
