5.0 out of 5 stars in my Opinion
"Older Couples, New Romances" is a practical, but entertaining guide to romance for adults in the "golden years", when there is much to consider beyond chemistry. The Authors have examples of romantic relationships as well as practical matters such as finance, sex, family considerations...all of which enter in to senior relationships and romances. The book is well...

3.0 out of 5 stars common sense and fragments of lives
At most times when I was reading this book, I thought "that's just common sense, what are you telling me that's new and helpful?" The authors recount the different lives and choices of 15 older couples in a fragmented series of annecdotes about what they look like, how they enjoy sex, who their friends are and all matters both important and trivial. The authors have a...

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent source on a rarely-discussed topic!, April 25, 2003
This review is from: Older Couples - New Romances: Finding and Keeping Love in Later Life (Paperback)
I teach a course on Sexuality and Aging, and another on Aging and the Family, and this book makes a great secondary "textbook" for both classes. The couples portrayed provide a terrific look at the realities of later-life marriages / partnerships. I really like the variety of experiences that are covered through the various couples. It would be nice if there were more minority couples, but that can be rectified in their next book!

5.0 out of 5 stars 70 years old and still interested, April 18, 2003

This review is from: Older Couples - New Romances: Finding and Keeping Love in Later Life (Paperback)
This book gives support to "older" persons who still enjoy socializing with members of the opposite sex. Since I am just beginning to get to know a man after three years of widowhood, I found this book to have special insights into the pitfalls and possible difficulties for older persons who have been married and are somewhat nervous about starting over again. I highly recommend it. The couples presented are very real and the richness of their relationships is beautifully presented.

The authors recount the different lives and choices of 15 older couples in a fragmented series of annecdotes about what they look like, how they enjoy sex, who their friends are and all matters both important and trivial. The authors have a great subject to deal with but did not do the subject justice. Too many stories, and too little practical advice.

this book serves up some eternal truths about relationships, and these factors are relevant for both young and older. i would guess that if you have not embraced these and followed most of them--you have moved on and are no longer together...

5.0 out of 5 stars Romantic Reconnections after 50, April 23, 2003

This review is from: Older Couples - New Romances: Finding and Keeping Love in Later Life (Paperback)
A very informative guide based on actual interviews with those who chose to reconnect with a mate in later life. The couples interviewed are of varied marital histories and backgrounds. The diverse choices made by each couple regarding how to be together in a new late-life relationship is very inspiring and liberating to anyone in a new relationship or comtemplating one.
