A very brief history of Oldsmobile, October 4, 2010
This review is from: Oldsmobile; the first seventy five years (Commemorative Edition) (Paperback)
This 72 page booklet traces the history of Oldsmobile from its beginning in 1897 to 1971. It was written in commemoration of Oldsmobile's 75th anniversary by Automobile Quarterly.
There are two authors, Beverly Rae Kimes and Richard M. Langworth, both very knowlegeable and talented. Ms. Kimes wrote the first five chapters which cover the period from 1897 to the start of World War II while Mr. Langworth (in Chapters VI-X)covered the period from 1946 through 1971.
The writing style is easy to read. Many pictures, both black and white as well as color, are included to supplement the text. Because this history was written for Oldsmobile, it is directed toward showing Oldsmobile's accomplishments with little or no commentary as to what its competitors were doing at the same time.
I found this booklet to be interesting and certainly informative and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone with even a passing interest in the history of the automobile industry.
