5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful
This soundtrack is pure beauty. Pure melodies, haunting rhythms, it is the quintessence of Janet Fitch's excellent novel. The sountrack beautifully captures light, airy perfection, and mixes it with darker, more thoughtful sounds. Very short, only about 30 minutes, but worth it.
The sountrack to life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Haunting and Beautiful!, November 5, 2002
This review is from: White Oleander [Original Motion Picture Soundtrack] (Audio CD)
The film White Oleander, which was a good adaption of the powerful novel, has a deep and heart breaking score byu Thomas Newman. Newman also composed the unforgettable score to American Beauty. The music in White Oleaner is soothing at times as well as haunting. Tracks 2, 9 and 16 contain the chilling beat that makes this soundtrack so good. Note: This is the score (there are no lyrics)Well none are needed. White Oleander's soundtrack is a must have.

Several reviews here complain that there are no tracks by Sheryl Crow nor other artists who had songs on this "soundtrack." If you are looking for a song soundtrack, look elsewhere; this CD is a compilation of tracks from the SCORE. Of course there won't be songs by other artists! Get it straight: score = instrumental.

Now, sometimes there MIGHT be additional songs, but don't complain when the CD is specifically labeled for the score. (And it's an awesome one at that.)

I honestly, in my opinion, think this is a greatly compopsed cd, and really think it is worth every penny. It doesn't matter if you're in the worst mood, this is guaranteed to get you out of it!

5.0 out of 5 stars white bliss, October 8, 2005
This review is from: White Oleander [Original Motion Picture Soundtrack] (Audio CD)
a great soundtrack with haunting vibes, but pure heaven. it pieces the movie very well as one.

if someone is interested in dance, there is a song by Jakatta ft. Seal called "My Vision" that has the theme song intertwined in it. very good song!!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, January 16, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: White Oleander [Original Motion Picture Soundtrack] (Audio CD)
I am a huge fan of Thomas Newman but really this CD presents nothing new. It comes across as merely a re-hash of the airy, atmospheric, melody-free cues from his other recent scores. It has none of the originality of American Beauty or Road to Perdition. Frankly, as much as I like his scores, I don't think this warranted a CD release, it's just got too bland and ordinary, no matter how beautifully constructed and pristine it all sounds. A pity.

2.0 out of 5 stars I agree, Where is Sheryl Crow's Safe and Sound?, January 11, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: White Oleander [Original Motion Picture Soundtrack] (Audio CD)
If they use a song by an artist, especially to open or close the movie, then a deal exists somewhere, that the artist was paid for their song to be used and should be included on the soundtrack. I was very disappointed when I couldn't find "Safe and Sound" by Sheryl Crow. I didn't buy the soundtrack. If you can't put the most memorable songs on the soundtrack, which evoke the feeling of the movie all over again when you listen to it, what's the point?
