5.0 out of 5 stars Great Value
I did a lot of research and finally settled on the Olevia 532H, mainly because of the price. From what I could tell the feature set was comparable with higher priced name brands but about 30 or 40% less expensive. So far I am extremely happy. The SD picture is an improvement over my 12 year old Sony 27 in. tube (which by the way is still going strong, just relocated to...

2.0 out of 5 stars Repair is very difficult
You should know that if an Olevia product breaks in any way, you have to ship it to the factory yourself. In Massachusetts, and many other states I'm sure, there are is no one who will repair Olevia products. Remember this before you are seduced by their low prices. And shipping isn't cheap.

I did a lot of research and finally settled on the Olevia 532H, mainly because of the price. From what I could tell the feature set was comparable with higher priced name brands but about 30 or 40% less expensive. So far I am extremely happy. The SD picture is an improvement over my 12 year old Sony 27 in. tube (which by the way is still going strong, just relocated to another room). I bought an indoor HD antenna, tuned in the local over-the-air HD channels and it was great. If you are not a videophile or worried about brand names, but just want to get started with a reasonably priced HDTV, you should consider this one. I gave it 5 stars based on value. If I was just considering features, I probably would have gone with 4.

4.0 out of 5 stars Picture and sound are good, but setup is unnecessarily complicated., March 1, 2007

Olevia doesn't make setup of this TV as simple as it should be. Not only is a printed manual not provided, but the on-screen setup menu is the least intuitive menu I've ever worked with.

Our TV reception is satellite via Dishnetwork. I also recently purchased a Sharp Aquos LCD TV, and setup for that was a breeze -- plug it in, attach coaxial cable, turn it on, and it does the rest iteself. Easy and quick.

But after connecting this set to the coaxial cable and plugging it in, I couldn't get a picture or sound. I read through the manual-on-CD and tried the on-screen menu -- no help. I finally searched through Olevia's website -- and found step-by-step instructions. About 10 steps via the remote are required. Very nice that the info was there, but it also should be in the manual! The reason for this is, according to their website, that the TV as it is shipped is set for showrooms, NOT consumers. Ergo all the extra 10 or so steps that ARE NOT DESCRIBED IN THE CD MANUAL. If you get this set, do this: bypass the manual and the on-screen menu during installation and go straight to their website instead.

Okay, besides that, the TV is fine. I've only had it a day and have no other complaints or problems. However, it makes no sense to me why Olevia would prepare their TVs for showrooms and not consumers.

Note: I chose this item based on Consumer Reports ratings. Also, I didn't purchase it from Amazon, but instead from another online vendor. I'm curious if others who did purchase via Amazon had similar experiences with their Olevia LCD TVs.

I have had unit for 90 days, "Love it".. after much research on line finally gave it and ordered for Football season. I did get the new 532H model before much info out on it or it was avaliable everwhere. It was well worth the wait and research. This TV is fantastic, excellent Color, Picture, easy to set up and controls to straight up. The only negative is the lack of manual.. I did download the PDF version from web site but would prefer professonal publication. I did encounter a few OS&?? when connceting to Dish HD box, Non HD Combo DVD and Surrond sound system
But overall fantasitc unit, $ for $ the Olevia is a steal. Amazon.. JR excellent service.

5.0 out of 5 stars quite a good bang for the buck, November 22, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Olevia 532H 32-Inch LCD HDTV (Electronics)
I bought mine in August and I have been one happy camper. This is our third HDTV, I own one Westinghouse LCD as well as a main plasma.

This unit is a great performer on a variety of sources. Beats the Westy hands down for blacks, contrast, color accuracy etc. The westy has a slighly better manual and slightly better setup menus, but those are one time issues. Side by side on every source: digital hd, progressive and upconverted dvds, sd, gameing systems, etc. I had a scare with sd TV out of my cable box via some real cheap component cables which did not look great, but this went away as soon as I changed to hdmi. (in fact I got some good component cable at monoprice and with those the upped 720 material looks great).

Solid all around performer at a good entry level price.

Bought this TV for after researching HDTV LCD's for several months. Was not even considering the Olevia brand until after the Consumer Reports Review came out on this model. The picture using an indoor cheap ($12) HDTV antenna is incredible. We live very close to the TV towers so we pickup all the over the air HDTV channels plus we are picking up SDTV channels we didn't even know were out there. Bought from Amazon as no one else carrys the 5 series yet. Local stores (Compusa, Circuit city) are still selling the 2-4 series and for more money?

5.0 out of 5 stars Great TV for the awesome price, November 25, 2006
This review is from: Olevia 532H 32-Inch LCD HDTV (Electronics)
I picked this from the Amazon store. The TV has HDMI..TV Tuner and the picture quality can match to any of those pricey Aquos Sharp.
I loved this TV and I watch it from my bed everyday.

I LOVE this TV. Picture is sharp, with good color, clarity and contrast, whether HD or not. No dead pixels. After adjusting audio properties, the sound is the best of any TV I have ever owned, and I'm pretty picky about audio quality; not as good as a separate audio receiver of course, but very good for a TV set; I do not see what other reviewer complaints about sound are based on. The menu is easy to navigate and allows TV viewing during operation. I prefer the electronic manual, there is too much paper junk associated with most products. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this TV for the price. I think it is an awsome buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars A "Best Buy", April 11, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Olevia 532H 32-Inch LCD HDTV (Electronics)
I've had this TV for a month now, and am impressed with its picture, style, and the number and type of connections on the back of the TV. It is a "Best Buy" in my book, plus March 2007 Consumers Reports gave the Olevia a pretty good review.

There are two annoyances that leave it short of five stars: (1) the TV is not able to be controlled by my Comcast-provided remote, and the Olevia remote can't be programmed to control all the features of the cable box - therefore I have to use two remotes; (2) there is a piercing blue light that emits from the on/off switch when the TV is turned off, so if you have this TV in the bedroom, you'll have to put a little piece of black electrical tape over the light because it is so uncomfortably bright.

5.0 out of 5 stars Review of the Olevia 532H 32" LCD TV, March 8, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Olevia 532H 32-Inch LCD HDTV (Electronics)
I chose this television because of the excellent review that was given to it in the March 2007 issue of Consumer Reports. It was not their first choice, but it was their second choice and the price was nearly half the price of the first choice.

I am really delighted with this television. The sound and picture are very good. I consider this TV to be a great buy...all things considered, this is the best for the money. It performs flawlessly and completely fulfills my expections. Once ordered the TV arrived in less than a week by FedEx.

I purchased two of these wonderful LCD TVs for a museum exhibition and they are wonderful! The picture quality is great and the curator of the exhibit and the visitors are stunned by the clarity of the images. Overall, this was an excellent purchase for us.
