More About the Author

Chef Steve Yeanish tells the warm and colorful story of his journey as a chef - from a child practicing recipes in his mother's kitchen while growing up in rural Pennsylvania, to his years at the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) in New York City.

Chef Steve's funny and heartwarming tale of his life-long love affair with food is interspersed with recipes from his former restaurant, the Oley Valley Inn. He tells the story of the tragic fire in 2005 which led to the eventual demise of a much-loved Berks County institution and the pride of the village of Oley.

Featured in his book are many popular Pennsylvania Dutch recipes, and the Oley Valley Inn lives on through favorites like Moravian Sugar Cake and Pumpkin Pancakes. He has also included stories of his family members and of the recipes that they passed to each other through the generations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent account of one man's journey, March 13, 2008
This review is from: Oley Valley Inn: A Culinary Journey (Hardcover)
This book is a wonderful story of one man's pursuit of his dream. Steve Yeanish provides the reader with a detailed account of his struggle to establish his fine dining restaurant in suburban Philadelphia.

This reporter has known Steve as a friend for almost 20-years and has had the pleasure of dining in his restaurant on many occasions. Steve is an artist of high caliber and his culinary skills are apparent to all of his dining customers.

The book, A Culinary Journey also contains a number of Steve's recipes. These are treats not to be missed.

I recommend the Culinary Journey to all and strongly recommend a trip to The Oley Valley Inn.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Pennsylvania Dutch Cookbook, August 9, 2008
This review is from: Oley Valley Inn: A Culinary Journey (Hardcover)
This is such a great book! Now that the Oley Valley Inn is closed, my family can recreate our favorite meals at home, like the Moravian Sugar Cake or the Berks County Mushroom Chowder, the Oley Valley onion soup or the sticky buns, the list goes on and on! The recipes are clear and easy to use, and don't call for loads of fancy hard-to-get ingredients, it's good down-home Pennsylvania cooking.

Thankfully the cover is hardback and you can wipe it off after using it in the kitchen, or prop it up to read the recipes while you cook. Very highly recommended!
