I absolutely LOVE my Olfa rotary cutter! Being a new fan of quilting, this rotary cutter is a time saver!!! I previously owned the Fiskars stick rotary cutter (45 mm) and replaced it after a week with this one since my other one dulled quickly. This one is amazing and what a difference from my other rotary cutter! This cutter literally glides across my fabric(s) effortlessly with no need to push down with all my might and weight. I also did not have to continuously go back to cut pieces of the fabric that did not cut through like I did with my other rotary cutter. It's also very easy to switch out the blade with just one touch. Raising the blade up is also very unique in that the blade cover part is split in two--very easy to use and very safe. Overall, a high quality product and I would definitely recommend this product!

Looks good, feels good, and works well. I prefer the additional blade guarding over the old model, and I just don't like the various auto-retracting models. The quick change feature works really well and really easily. I was concerned about the wearing surfaces, in particular whether the quick change action would wear the axle. I was needlessly concerned - the blade has good support, and the click on and click off of the quick change is well-designed.

Some find themselves debating between standard cutters like this versus ergonomic cutters ... especially, it seems, the Martelli. Having tried them both, I find I prefer a standard cutter handle. While ergo handles have some value, I find that value to be overstated. What the makers of the ergo cutters don't tell you is that the sighting isn't quite as good. A standard cutter handle sights and functions like an extension of your hand. An ergo cutter does not.

Try this: pick up a straight cutter like the Olfa and point it at something quickly in instinctive fashion. If, after pointing, you sight down your arm and hand, then along the cutter, you'll find it pointing right where you looked. No different than pointing your finger. It's easy and natural. Now try that with something like the Martelli. The line along your arm and hand will point where you aimed, but the cutter will be pointing along a parallel path.

Much of what the manufacturers of the ergo cutters tell you is true. They can be easier on your wrists. They have somewhat better leverage. They are easier to use if you need turn and swivel your wrists to follow complex lines. These differences can make or break the decision on which to buy, depending on your priorities. For me, the sighting ease and the fact that the Olfa can be used left or right handed made my decision. I like it a lot.

I've never used a rotary cutter before and bought this for a beginning quilting class. Wow what an amazing tool! It makes cutting cloth in straight lines a snap! I can foresee many other uses for this tool in scrap booking and other projects and I can't believe I've gotten along without one before. This cutter is especially nice as the blades can be refilled easily with no danger of cutting yourself trying to pry the old blade out. I love it!

I love my rotary cutter! This one lives up to its name - the blades are super easy to swap. It cuts cleanly as long as you keep your blades fresh (I recommend you buy those from Amazon too, in 5 packs). I really like that you can open up one side of the blade at a time to keep one side protected or choose to use the whole blade exposed. I also like the grips on the handle. You won't be sorry you spent a little extra for this model.

Best design I've seen. Handy size, best blade available, highest quality manufacture and, for safety, you can expose either half of the blade at a time for left-hand or right-hand use. Used it to make a curtain for my daughter and proved to be approximately 612 megatimes better than scissors.
P.S. Get yerself one o' them thar overpriced (but invaluable) "self healing" cutting pads.

This is a slick cutter. It works beautifully - cuts nice and smooth. The safety guard is easy to slide back and forth. It is super easy to change the blade. I use this for photo mat cutting and would highly recommend.

Oh, how I love love love this rotary cutter. I was using my older, smaller Olfa cutter, but even after changing to a new blade, found myself going over and over -- and over - the fabric (which can lead to some really bad edges), and having to put my whole strength behind it. This new cutter arrived yesterday, and I started using it immediately. It's super-sharp, and it glides through multiple layers of quilting fabric with no catches or threads left uncut. It's easy to hold, the safety latches are easy to operate, and is just wonderful all-around. Totally worth the money.

I have never own a rotary cutter so I'm not sure how sharp should it be, but I always thought that a good rotary cutter should be really sharp and cuts fabric like buter. The blade is really sharp (it shaves the plastic off my ruler!) but for some reason, it does not cut the fabric completely and there are tiny points where the fabric is still attached after going through it once and as slowly as I can. So I have to roll it over those spots a few more times, which result in untidy cuts. But I am not sure if I am using it correctly though.

What I love about this product is its quick change function because I am left-handed so it is really convenient to use.
