5.0 out of 5 stars This latest album is simply her best!
From the beginning to the end, Olga Tanon's newest album "Olga Viva, Viva Olga" just demonstrates how talented this woman is and just goes to show you why she is called "La Reina Del Merengue". From the beginning to the end, Olga Tanon's newest album "Olga Viva, Viva Olga" just demonstrates how talented this woman is and just goes to show you why she is called "La Reina Del Merengue". Not only does she sing her greatest hits "live", but she also includes some never before released songs which are sure to become favorites. She opens up the album with an energetic upbeat groove with "Es Mentiroso". She then sings "Precencie Tu Amor" which is one her nicest songs. She then sings her other hits such as "El Frio De Tu Adios", "Mi Eterno Amor Secreto", "Muchacho Malo", "Me Subes, Me Bajas, Me Subes", "Contigo O Sin Ti", "Basta Ya", and "Ya Me Canse". But one of the most interesting parts of the album is when she sings "Tu Amor". She actually sings this song in five different rhythms like merengue, bolero, rap, salsa, and pop. With Olga's beautiful voice, the cheering crouds, and the magnificent orchestral arrangements you will realize that this album was worth it! Que Viva Olga!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great CD from "La Reina del Merengue"!, December 13, 1999

"Olga Viva, Viva Olga" is a great example of Olga Tanon's stage presence. She often interacts with the audience, chatting them up in this performance. It sounds very personal, like something on MTV Unplugged or VH1 Storytellers, which is a great setting. The fans really get into her probably biggest hit "Me Subes, Me Bajas, Me Subes", which is, in my opinion, MUCH better than the recorded version on "Nuevos Senderos". The only thing that kept this CD from a 5 is the lack of new songs, except for "Viva la Musica", which isn't that great, and the fact that the Boogaloo Medley and the several versions of "Tu Amor" are pretty cheesy. It's still a very worthy buy, though. :-)

2.0 out of 5 stars Lackluster live cd from this talented singer, December 5, 1999
This review is from: Olga Viva Viva Olga (Audio CD)
I've been a fan of Olga Tanon since her days as member of Las Nenas de Ringo y Jossie and Chantelle and when I read about this cd, thought it would be a milestone in her career.

However, the following factors made me give it only 2 stars:

1)The recording was either made, mixed or mastered without taking into acount that this type of music needs to be equalized in a manner that not only her voice but also the bass, brass and percussion has "punch". It sounds as a live recording of a classical soloist.

2) The new songs are filler.

3) Her versions of salsa's classics previously recorded by Joe Cuba/Cheo Feliciano, El Gran Combo de PR, Richie Ray & Bobby Cruz and Willie Colon/Hector Lavoe are not outstanding.

She deserves better albums. Let's hope the next studio recording brings the best in her.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sing Along With Olga Live!, July 16, 2002
This review is from: Olga Viva Viva Olga (Audio CD)
Olga Viva, Viva Olga is a very entertaining CD. It was recorded live at the House Of Blues in Orlando, FL. She won a Latin Grammy for this one. I like the smaller audience, and hearing them sing along with hits like "Basta Ya" makes you feel as if you're actually there at the concert.

The biggest number is "Tu Amor." It starts off with the techno-Flamenco sound it's originally done in, then the band cuts off; so they can sample Merengue, Bolero, Hip-hop and Salsa versions of the song. Eventually returning to the spicy Flamenco style.

The last track is a groovy Spanglish number. It's nothing special, but has a catchy beat, and gives hints at Olga's potential English crossover.

This Cd has a great collection of her hits. She sings just as well in the concert then in her recordings. She also sings in English in this album, very well. She talks a lot which makes it actually seem live like your there! This album is great!

This review is from: Olga Viva Viva Olga (Audio CD)
You get Olga's greatest hits and a Live album. The music sounds so good and the audience makes you feel like you're there. 'Es Mentiroso', 'Ah Ah Oh No' and 'Muchacho Malo' will make anyone get out of their seats and wanna dance. 'Mi Eterno Amor Secreto' and 'Basta Ya' are great ballads. Fun album to play at family parties.
