Such a beautiful recording of the early 1990's, June 8, 2004
This review is from: Olho De Peixe (Audio CD)
When one listens to this recording, he becomes ennamoured with one of the best things Brazilian musical culture has seen in the 1990's. Lenine is a rare combination: a good artist that sells; he seems to have waited until his true time of flourishing (nearly 40 years old) to present his fruits in partnership with Marcos Suzano. Among his popular albuns, this is the first and best; that which presents his essence as a composer of first rank at freshest and displaying incredible poetical talents, both in lyrics and arrangements. The creativity for which both he and Suzano meritously receive the present recognition flows through all songs, and each one is worth the dedication of one's sensibility. My special praise goes to "O que e bonito", "La e Lo", and "Leao do Norte"; the first, a passionate and intelligent expression of music's primal drive; the second, a mix of rock, regional rhythms and creative lyrics; the last, in an elegy to the local figures of Recife (the place where Lenine grew): in this song, the interweaving of lyrics and rhythm is one of the most beautiful and successful to be recently noticed in Portuguese language: "Sou o coracao do folclore nordestino / Eu sou Mateus e Bastiao do Boi Bumba / Sou o boneco do Mestre Vitalino / Dancando uma ciranda em Itamaraca / Eu sou um verso de Carlos Pena Filho / Num frevo de Capiba / Ao som da orquestra armorial / Sou Capibaribe / Num livro de Joao Cabral". Also the songs "O ultimo por do sol", and "Mais Alem", are profound. All of Lenine's CDs are good and worth the sum dispensed at their purchase; in each of them a facet of his unique talents is portrayed; but this is the one in which the listener hears his very heart beating at its simplest, and thus greatest: for the most part, plain voice, accoustic guitar and percussion compose the songs with less sophistications and effects than later recordings. It can also be said that this CD is indispensable to those who wonder about the ways of MPB after the unequalled generation that brewed in the 60's and 70's: it is one of the works of the 90's responsible for the reinfusion of roots livelyhood in the market music scene, thus influencing the definition of its directions.

Among the best of what has being produced in Brazil lately., December 15, 1998
By A Customer
This is a high-quality acoustic album with what the best the Brazilian popular music is producing nowadays. It contains the rhythym and the melodies of a region in Brazil, its Northeast, which is very special in terms of traditional folk art. In the globalised world, regional folk traditions are dying, or rather being killed, by the international industry of entertainement, and giving its way to massified forms of art. It is very important that artists of the quality of Lenine produce music with the background of folk tradition. The cultural world needs divesity as nature needs it too. We are running the risk of making both disappear from Earth.

Lenine and Suzano - as your mind flies by..., January 4, 2002
LENINE it's an stunning composer writer singer and performer that's been 23 years on the road , this album is from the begining of the 90's , he plays guitar in a rhithmic fashion , Lenine's lirycs are very powerful and poetic so it's not a bad idea to try the translation , a sort of magician-reporter from Brazil with a" Z" , mean as seen for caricature buyers , Lenine is not for caricature or cliché buyers , Creative fusion of Maracatu , jazz rock -sound effects ( street noise ) , a must , the new Brasilian genius ,O dia que faremos contato ( 1995 ) a masterpiece , Na Pressao , another proof that the guy is incredibly talented and creative , on march 2002 there would be a new record from Lenine so stay tunned , Lenine has recorded on Realworld studios -London With Peter Gabriel , and has toured Europe and Japan several times. I was in his closing show in Rio Na Pressao tour 2002. The record Olho de Peixe will be available on march 2003 as a double set one side live , as informed by Leninein Rio in late December.
