Book Description

January 18, 2010
Pavel Ivanchenko's life begins in poverty and violence, but he is destined to become one of the richest men in the world as one of the post–Glasnost Oligarchs. He starts his business life trading illegal vodka on the freezing, grimy streets of Kargasok and he ends up buying most of the steel in the old Soviet Union, believing that he can buy, sell, or destroy anything or anyone—especially women. This is principally the story of two of those women: one English, one Russian, who become friends as girls in Moscow, and whose lives then become entwined through their turbulent relationships with the Oligarch. This story leads us deep into the heart of an unknown and fascinating world, with a larger–than–life man—part hero, part villain—at its center.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"This wildly romantic and powerfully atmospheric novel takes us from the cramped, steaming kitchens of Nowhereski, Siberia, to the presidential suites of the world's best hotels. Like all rags-to-riches stories, the rags are the best bit. I enjoyed it so much I wanted to read it again, instantly."  —Daily Mail

"A drop of the hard stuff, administered tenderly by someone who's obviously been there."  —Christopher Hitchens on Neat Vodka

"Blundy, a journalist herself, puts a distinctly human face on the headlines while telling a corker of a story. . . . This is a keeper; don't miss it."  —Booklist starred review of Bad News Bible

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Anna Blundy:), February 19, 2010
This review is from: The Oligarch's Wife (Paperback)
Anna Blundy is very good, as always.
This book is a real page turner. Being russian myself it's very interesting to see what other people think of my country. It's a little bit too dramatic and somehow
time frames of events doesn't match, but it's still looks real and very interesting to read. If you are going for lazy vacation - take this book and enjoy it.
