Enter this Wildkin pack. Dimensionally, it is about 2x the capacity of the Littlelife -- mainly evident in the depth, i.e. how far it sticks off the back. It's also probably an inch or so wider than your typical 2 year-old's torso. It would be easy to overstuff, so we try to remain conscious of that and limit loads to the above mentioned accessories. We eventually added lumps of (heavy) homemade play-dough, which he *Loves* to drag in to school to distribute to his teachers.
The pack isn't as well constructed as the Littlelife, but it's better than some backpacks I remember using to tote books to school when I was growing up. In fact, or son is now five, and with 3 years of regular usage on it, the original pack remains in ~excellent~ condition. The "fabric" is a relatively rigid material that so far has been resilient to being dragged occasionally on the sidewalk, and the exterior doesn't seem very absorbent, making it easy to wipe clean. The top hanging loop tore loose at the stitching on the 2nd of these packs we purchased (for our 2nd son), that was was easily sewed back in place.Read more ›
First, it is the perfect size for a younger child. My 3 year old can get it on and off and carry it without a problem. I was worried it might be too big, but it fit her well and is a great size for the next few years. I expect this to work at least until she's 5 or 6.
Second, the compartments are just what I needed them to be for school/travel. The main compartment is big enough for a lunchbox or some books, games and toys, and the front pocket is great for snacks and small things like crayons or tissues. The side pouch is great for sippy cups. And the colors are very bright and happy and the pattern is really cute. It's hard to tell but there is a reflective strip along the smaller pocket, which I like for when we're out in the dark.
Third, the overall craftsmanship is good. I'm very happy with how durable this backpack is.
My daughter and I are both very happy with this product. So much so, I bought a second backpack for my infant son to grow into!
