5.0 out of 5 stars A Christmas Classic, December 21, 2000

This is a beautiful little book with a captivating heroine. "Olive" is written in a style which will appeal to children and adults alike, and the illustrations are delightful. It is time for a new Christmas story, and my hat's off to Michael Christie for producing one that I'm sure will become a classic. My nieces in England loved it!

4.0 out of 5 stars An Unexpectedly Wonderful Christmas Story, December 13, 2000
This review is from: Olive The Orphan Reindeer (Paperback)
My 7 year old son and I just finished reading Olive, the Orphan Reindeer. What a delightful story. Each year we read The Night Before Christmas, The Christmas Carol, or Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer, it was nice to discover a new title to add to our holiday reading. The press release stated that this book was geared toward the age group 9-12. My 7 year old read this book with ease and understanding. I agree with Michael, this book is for anyone who believe in Christmas.

Good Job, Are there other books available by this author?

When Michael Christie first approached me via email with his wonderful children's Christmas story and the opportunity to post it on my website, I jumped at the chance. Not only is the story a sheer delight for children's imaginations, it's a marvel for any adult with the heart of a child. Michael has done an excellent job in weaving a wonderful tale of old-fashioned Christmas lore while at the same time incorporating contemporary details that today's child will relate to. And the depiction of Olive and her friends through Margeaux Lucas' illustrations are beautiful in and of themselves. Olive has quickly become a classic in my heart for many Christmases to come. Treat yourself and everyone you know - don't let this treasure get by you this year!

5.0 out of 5 stars Olive the Orphan Reindeer - What a great book!, November 18, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Olive The Orphan Reindeer (Paperback)
This is such a cute story, and so well done, it could easily be as popular as Rudolph, or Frosty the Snowman. I wouldn't be surprised if it were made into an animated Christmas TV movie. Olive is the female equivalent of Rudolph, and is quite a good choice to read as a companion to Rudolph, especially to little girls. Little girls need a good heroine at Christmas time and this is just the right one.

Oh my...Olive has crept into my heart. I love that little reindeer! She is so sensitive and so full of life but yet so shy. My grandchildren and great grandchildren love this little book. She is just as much a part of our Christmas as Rudolph. I pray that God will guide and direct the mind of the author, Michael Christie. Thank you so much Michael....please continue to write.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully endearing story!, November 17, 2000
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Olive The Orphan Reindeer (Paperback)
Michael Christie has written a wonderfully endearing story of a shy little reindeer named Olive. Olive is like many of us in that even though she is constantly doing her best, and getting better and stronger every day, inside she still feels like a nobody, and wonders if she would ever be chosen for such an important job as pulling Santa's sleigh. This is a very uplifting story about how Olive finally comes to discover her dreams at the North Pole. Even though this book is written on a 9-12 yr old reading level, the little ones simply love having it read to them over and over. My 2-year-old constantly wants someone to read it to her, and my 11-year-old is usually the one who does. It's the kind of book that MUST read EVERY night at bedtime for months(or so your child will tell you.) This is definitely a 5 star book...a new classic in our house! You won't be disappointed with this one.

It strengthened the Christmas atmosphere in my classroom. My grade two and three students were intrigued by the introduction of Olive and a new team of reindeer. The use of humour combined with suspense and adventure captured the attention of every child in the classroom. It had everyone reading!!! A teacher`s dream. A story for children and adults of the twenty first century. Keep it up Michael

I have this book and I love it. It's a fun book for all ages. The story is unique and cute and I wouldn't be surprised to see it made into a movie someday like Rudolf.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Clear Expression of Dreams Come True, November 18, 2000
By

This review is from: Olive The Orphan Reindeer (Paperback)
"Olive, the Orphan Reindeer" is written in a direct style which serves to enhance the story of a young reindeer finding a new home for herself at the North Pole. I am far older than the recommended reading range, yet I enjoyed Michael Christie's story about wishing for something and having your dream granted. Who can't identify with wishes come true? Above all, this is one reason we have Christmas, to make dreams real. Merry Christmas!
