This is the jewel of British musical theater! The absolute best of Lionel Bart captured on film in all its musical and cinematic glory. The color, spectacle, the darkness and the light of Dicken's London are all lovingly displayed with drama, music and engaging choreography. The stage version included the wonderful late Georgia Brown, and the film version boasts the effervescent Shani Wallis(Wish You Were Here-UK, Wonderful Town-UK, etc); just as delightful! The flawless cast also includes the menacing Oliver Reed, the wily Ron Moody, the pompous Harry Secombe(Pickwick) and the spritely Jack Wild. The one sour note is, perhaps, the strange singing voice of the central character Oliver. This, however, should not deter you from enjoying this classic!
