My kids are now asking to have onions for dinner! My kids love this fun book with great illustrations and a sweet story. What a great message for the kids! Oliver doesn't let himself be influenced by what other people like......he is true to himself and his onions! My nieces were visiting and tried to take our Oliver book.......now I know what to get them for the holidays.

In our times of poor eating habits and the obesity of our children and nation, Dr. Richard B. Joelson has decided to write books for children about healthy eating. Here is one of the stories he created.

Oliver loves onions. He is addicted to onions. He eats them morning, noon ,and night. He eats them sauteed, roasted, fried, baked, and raw. Oliver prefers onions to sweets and any other kind of food.

Unfortunately onions give Oliver's breath an unpleasant odor , so his mother recommends he eat a mint. In the meantime, he tries to eat other foods. He tries burgers, chicken, ice cream, chocolate cake, broccoli , and more, but Oliver still loves onions.

As the book comes to an end, Oliver decides to return to his favorite food: onions.

The book is written in rhyme so it is an easy one to enjoy. It is a good choice to read to children who seem just to have favorite foods and will not even try other foods. It should at least open up an avenue for brainstorming other food alternatives your child/children could try.

Upon reading AND hearing this book I was amazed with the clever use of rhyming. The content of the book is such that it teaches children it is OK to be different and to stick to what you like no matter how different it is. I read this book to all three of my children and my little one continues to repeat phrases from the story throughout the house. I intend to recommend it to be added to the required reading list at my children's school. Looking forward to additional books about Oliver!

I bought "Oliver" for my two grandsons (ages 3 & 5) and they laughed the whole way through. I had to read it over & over and they pretty much memorized it (thanks to the wonderful rhymes). After I left, they played the CD and fell in love with that as well. It seems that in every respect, this book is a home run for all kids, especially those with definitive tastes in food! It's McCoy's for my boys!

This book does not teach healthy eating. Quite the opposite. Also, it is important to note that the author is obese.

A really nice book with beautiful illustrations. The CD narrated by the author is especially good. Kids, and those of us who will always be young at heart, will really enjoy this book.
