Not another soft toy, this: Olivia is a character from a small series of books about amazingly human-like girl-piglet. No exagerration there - Olivia stories are perhaps the most thoughtful, subtle and incisive illustrated books for children published in a decade.

The man behind the image of Olivia, Ian Falconer, is of theatre design background and not what you may call a trained children's book illustrator. Rather than illustrating a narrative, the stories are built around the image of Olivia, her mother and her brother - and the image itself is incredibly accomplished, perfected and developed in a remarkably professional way.

So it is amazing to see now how this image was transformed into the shape of a toy - make no mistake, this is not an easy task. You have probably seen many cartoon characters who became dull three-dimensional imitations of themselves when toys were made: a lifeless computer-generated shape, with no name other than "merchandise". That's all they are.

Olivia is different. She's beyond cute, and is likely to become one of your child's favorite cuddly toys, treasured for years and years.

This stuffed animal is very cute, especially if your child likes the Olivia books. However, it is more of a shelf stuffed friend. It isn't very cuddly.

My daughter loves her Olivia books, so she was very happy to get an Olivia doll for her birthday. She has tons of Gund stuffed animals, and they are all so cute, and so soft. This is a great toy for any little girl.

My daughter loves Olivia and I'm looking for some Olivia toys ... I see this 10" plush for $99.99... seriously? No thank you - 1 star for horrible pricing.

Olivia is a rockstar when it comes to kid's shows. I am wayyy past the target audience and still watch the show to death, and my wife watches it with me sometimes and finds Olivia so cute. So, when i foudn my first Olivia, i bought it in a hurry and gave it to my wife as a present. I loved the way that Olivia looked - she has those spindly little legs and that cute little head, an expression that makes you happy, and she is downright adoreable. Her ears seem to defy gravity, too, staying up far after the purchase date. The only thing I thought would make her better would be her hear ribbons, which she wears in both the books and the cartoon. Still, the thing is downright adoreable and my wife and i loved having her over.

As far as Olivias are concerned, there is this one and one that looks just like it excpet for the fact that she is a purse. They both are made really well and they both have the same tracking number, so you have to find out which is which because the purse model could be a choking hazard. i only found out about the model number being the same by accident when I was looking for the both of them, and tried (in vain) to write the company. At least reviewing it makes me feel a little better about telling parents about the thing that could present danger when the zipper-pull comes off and a child has it in its hands. That said, this is not a complaint against Olivia - far from it - because Olivia is tough. She is made by Gund and Gund knows one thing about stuffed animals that that is how to make them. They have what seems to be magical means when it comes to softness and durability, too, and this little girl is no exception.

Should you buy her? Well, if you think it is cute and you think you want it either for yourself or for a gift, why not? It is a kid's show but it is an adult's world, and my wife adored this as much as the few children we have also bought one for. They go Out-of-Print easily as well, and the special ones (Ringmaster Olivia, Christmas Olivia with PJs, and afew others) should be grabbed while the iron is hot. This is not like the stuffed trends from befor ebecause, just like any toy, Olivia is also something that has a value attached. Kids will grow up loving her, too, and that love may stay with them through adulthood just by buying a little doll that is a little goth in the legs and too cute in the making.
I have to give her creator one thing - he made a perfect thing to teach kids with that you can secretly love. I know because i love the toy we have, too.

ok now i know most people would buy this toy for their child or neice or whatever but my dog is like my child anyways , i bought it at a beverly hills botique for less than what amazon is selling it for i bought it for 9.99 anyways emma loves it shes very gentle with it and is very durable because my other dog valentino loves to rip her toys to shreds i recommend it for a child or your special "baby" - donna

Hurry and buy this pig along with an Olivia book immediately. This is the cutest thing I have ever seen.

I gave this to my neice & she has had to have it every night to sleep with & kept it with her thru Christmas break. She also has all of the Olivia books & although we've reat the several times, she still enjoys them. This is well worth the money.

Olivia arrived in time to make a little girl very happy. Olivia has found a good home and she is loved. Thank you so much.
