La dram�tica y turbulenta historia de amor entre Olivia y Jai es el marco perfecto para introducirnos en la India Brit�nica de la primera mitad del siglo XIX.
Desde la llegada de Olivia a Calcuta procedente de los Estados Unidos, esta se tiene que adaptar, aprender y enfrentarse a dos mundos paralelos que interactuan, conviven y se toleran entre si pero que rara vez se mezclan: la India nativa, milenaria y tradicional y la India inglesa, colonizadora, altiva, orgullosa y dominante.
Paralelas a las historias de amor y las descripciones costumbristas de la India estan las rivalidades mercantiles de las compa��as Templewood y la Trident que nos sumergen en el mundo comercial del t�, el �ndigo y el opio, pilares estos del enriquecimiento de unos y el sufrimiento y el oprobio de otros.
Una novela densa pero interesante y amena que en toda su extensi�n abarca todas las facetas de la vida cotidiana de Calculta y de la India en la primera mitad del siglo XIX.
