Olivia......Giving you smooth and rough all in one, May 15, 2001
This cd from olivia is probably one of the hottest cds out from any R+B female singer right now. There is no way to get bored with this cd because she just gives different sides of the hip/r+b world. This is another artist trying to take the rap/sing write/produce control like some astists such as Missy, Lauryn hill, wyclef, etc.. Moving on to the tracks on the album. What is good?*(1/5(sorry excuse) - 5/5(best thing since ice cream))* 1-(4/5)-- This first single sets things off. The beat and flow match and couldnt be better coming form a new comer. 2-(4/5)-- This is probably one of the edgiest songs on the album. This is olivia telling someone to grab the camcorder and get ready for some action. Not for young ears but this is another tight rap/sing song with a good flow and beat.(might be the next single) 3-(3/5)-- Fastest track on the album with olivia telling a brother how much she is feeling him. She holds back nothing when explainging why. You might not be suprised at first listen since she is singing so fats but after a few listens u will see. Nice beat...sounds liek rodney jerkins. 4-(5/5)-- A slow jam that takes it to the edge. One of teh best slow songs on the album. The base line beat along with the melody makes this a song for repeat. About being confused with someone. 5-(4/5)-- One of the smoothest tracks on the album that shows a completly different side of olivia. This is nothing short of bedroom music with the chinese chimes and gituar base line going. 6-(4/5)--A cool midtempo track with gituars and organs playing in the background about olivia not taking any woop-T-woo(nonsense) from her lover. 7-(4/5)-- Olivia takes it down south on this one. Not like otehr down south joints you heard before. This one is on the R+B tip but the beat and everything is tight. Think "whats your fantasy"(the R+B remix). 8-(3/5)-- This is a cool mid-tempo track that sounds like somethign tracy chapman could sing. She flips it once again talking about awaiting her mans arival from jail and making it through hard times. 9-(2/5)-- Midtempo/Hip-hop beat about what it takes to get with her in the club and what u wont get if u dont come correct. 10-(3/5)--Another smooth slow jam that takes her in a different direction. This is about meeting your soulmate. Her voice is real smooth on this one. 11-(3/5)-- Another slow jam that takes it there. Olivia saying..."Once you view the cat, you never turning back". That should tell you where this song is going. Nice slow jam. 12-(3/5)-- This is olivia and label mate jimmy sharing vocals over a slow jam(ballad). Talkign about mesing up in a relationship and not being able to turn back. Overall, Olivia gave you a little bit of everything that she was feeling musicall, lyrically, and emotionally. this will probably be one of the best R+B debuts to drop in a while. I give her credit for writing all the songs/rhymes and taking control over so much of it. Her singing is not as powerful as someone like whitney houston but smooth and strong like sade or zhane. If you like R+B and Hip-hop then its no reason for you not to check this out. If you dont...listen and it just might get u into it as well. Dont sleep on this one. Get it!
