The Performance is preceded by interviews with Eschenbach and the other musicians, who discuss it's technical and esthetic aspects, as well as the history of Messiaen's writing of this deeply spiritual work, as a prisoner in a Nazi concentration camp in Silesia in 1941, where it was first performed for his fellow prisoners.
