Book Description

April 19, 2011
This book collects approximately 400 outstanding graphic design works of Olle Eksell, one of the most respected and distinguished Swedish graphic designers. While he contributed to professional and academic arenas, he also created delicate and sensitive private works such as sketches and drawings. He is most famous for his iconic Mazetti Cacao Eye design, a pictogram for the chocolate and confectionary manufacturer, that was said to have actually boosted the sales for the company. In this book, a wide variety of the corporate tools from letterhead to advertising posters are included, as well as some of the truly breathtaking works—a point-of-sale tool with a boy’s and girl’s smiley face and a package with a drawing of a reindeer for Christmas, that are fun to look at and make everybody smile. This book also includes his private works such as postcards, which were created before he became a professional designer, paintings as gifts for his personal friends, and drawings of the places he visited for holidays with his wife. His talents are seen in many areas ranging from illustration, copywriting, pictorial books, textile, and product designs. This book covers his comprehensive works, and is the most definitive visual collection ever seen of this talented artist. The charming illustrations will appeal not only to designers and professionals but also to the inner child in all of us.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect September 17, 2007
Format:Paperback
I got this book about an hour ago, it is really fantastic, better than I had hoped it would be.
It shows a diverse range of Olle's work from sketches and wonderful drawings to packaging, book jackets and posters, its a must for illustrators and graphic designers a true classic.
So glad I have a copy.
There is very little text in the book and what there is in Japanese, it is just a perfect visual delight.
By the way its being republished in November 2007.

5.0 out of 5 stars Under the Radar November 17, 2009
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Olle Eksell is a designer that seems to be under the radar here in america. This book is a healthy collection of much of his works. There is hand-lettering, package design, children s illustrations, paintings, drawings etc.
I love Olle's spare use of color, and his pen line is deceptively simple. Brilliant designer and this book is really fantastic. The writing is in Japanese but it should not deter you from purchasing this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding book of illustration and design November 8, 2009
Format:Paperback
A "to-die-for" book filled with absolutely gorgeous, inspiring images. Highly recommended for everyone interested in whimsical, fantastical illustration and design. One of the very best illustration/design books on my rather crowded shelves.
