Book Description

April 26, 2011 3 - 7 years
Ollie and Moon are best friends, and Ollie loves surprising Moon almost as much as Moon loves guessing Ollie's surprises. Today, Ollie has the best surprise yet for Moon, and she can't wait to guess what it is! As they gambol through the streets of Paris, hints about the surprise accumulate every step of the way. Will Moon guess Ollie's surprise before they reach it? Tickled readers will be guessing right alongside Moon!

Diane Kredensor is an Emmy award-winning children's television director and artist. She was inspired to write this "buddy story" by her love of people, her love of travel, and her love of cheese! The distinctive art style features Diane's bold, stylized characters superimposed atop Sandra Kress's charming photographs of Paris. French words and landmarks add to the fun. This delightful friendship story will keep readers laughing as they join Ollie and Moon on their cumulative guessing game through the City of Light.

Editorial Reviews

Review

“Sweet and clever and a pure delight!” —Dan Yaccarino

"Just when Moon seems weary, Ollie knows how to cheer her up with a quick break to take funny snapshots in front of Parisian icons. Then it’s back to guessing Ollie’s best surprise yet, which is sure to wow young children as much as it does Moon. Bien fait." - Kirkus Reviews

"This is a charming picture book with photos from Paris that children will enjoy picking up again and again. Get yourself a copy!" - Book Faerie (blog)

"My mini literature critics gave Ollie and Moon an enthusiastic thumbs up, giggling over cartoon characters exploring Parisian landmarks they know so well." - La Mom Paris (blog)

"Unique and utterly charming" - Through the Looking Glass Review (blog)

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it! May 9, 2011
Format:Hardcover
I believe Ollie and Moon are going to be the next big thing in children's animation.

Ollie has a surprise for Moon and leads the way through the streets of Paris, passing traditional Paris landmarks, and stumbling across all sorts of things that Moon loves (cheese!) but she doesn't guess her surprise until the last page.

The two pals are so pleasing to the eye, simple lines, great coloring, and the perfect amount of silly. When the 6 year old was waiting for me to read to him at bedtime, I came in as he was flipping through the pages, just taking in all the pictures and illustrations. This is one of the books he will pick up when he doesn't want the pressure of reading a chapter book, but instead would rather be taken away by pictures. And that's OK by me!

I love how Diane Kredensor mixes her drawings with real photos of Paris. It reminds me of Knuffle Bunny and Trixie set against the New York backdrop - one of our favorites. Ollie and Moon seem to leap off the page while taking in the sites of France.

There is something so special about Ollie and Moon - I wish I could put it into words, but it's just that gut feeling that tells me this is the beginning of something great.

This new duo is sure to be one of our favorite pairs...but that's not all it is!

Ollie and Moon is currently in development as their own animated series!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ahhh Mooooo! June 15, 2011
Format:Hardcover
My 16-month old daughter Kate just loooooves Ollie & Moon. The other day she walked over to her box o' books and started throwing them out of the box. She was looking for Ah Moo! and wasn't happy with anything else. When we couldn't find the book, I went downstairs and sure enough it was there. She was so ecstatic and actually cried if I took the book away.

Kate loves the bright colors and all of Moon's crazy hats! She gets excited when she sees Moon on the potty because she is just starting to potty train herself. She also really loves the big image of the vegetable stand because we always name all the veges, including Stanley's basket of apples and bananas. And the best part is when we get to the carousel with all the bright lights and animals.

We highly recommend this book! It's funny, colorful and features two best friends who really love and respect one another. I love it's positive message! We can't wait for book #2!!!

Discover the connection of two best friends, Ollie and Moon, one loves surprising friends and the other enjoys guessing the surprise before it happens. Ollie enjoys setting up the perfect surprise for his best friend Moon, while Moon enjoys discovering the surprise before its unveiling. Determined not to have his latest surprise unearthed by Moon too soon, Ollie takes Moon on an adventure through Paris. Moon's curiosity is at an all time high and begins guessing what the surprise could be when Ollie begins dropping clues along the way.

"As much as Moon loves getting surprises, she loves trying to guess what they are even more. Once she even found her birthday present - two days before her birthday."

Will Ollie reveal too much too soon or will his string of simple descriptions be enough to complete their travels through Paris? Find out on the fun loving adventure with expert illustrations and photography, blending the illustrations of Ollie and Moon into photographs of strategic locations throughout Paris.
