1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I was expecting books that had some real information and educational material. However, I was very disappointed to find that the books are not that at all. The Wizardology book is a 'diary' of Merlin. From the description, I thought there would be a history of Wizardry and the legend of wizardry. The Egyptology book was the biggest flop of the series. Wow - all four books for this price! Some stores are still selling the individual books for more than $20 each! We were thrilled.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating Books, October 4, 2011
This review is from: The Ologies Collection (Hardcover)
I fell in love with these books when I was a kid. I have TONS of them, and ,at 24 years old, I'm still working on adding them all to my personal collection. My daughter, who is turning 3 soon, loves to look at these books. Not only will they be fun for her to read when she gets older, they are visually striking so she enjoys them now (with supervision!). If you have kids that have huge imaginations, like I do, they will LOVE these books. I've read really poor reviews of these books. About how they aren't "informative" or they though they would be "educational". I'm not sure what it is the parents buying this book are thinking their kids are going to learn when they purchase a book called Dragonology or Wizardology. Maybe they thought it was going to teach their kids how to be a dragon wielding wizard? Just because these books aren't laid out like history books, with fact after fact, doesn't make them bad books. As a kid, how cool is it to think you're reading Merlin's journal?!?! Or that this really is a piece of dragon wing that you're looking at? I can't convey in words how completely awesome the whole Ologies series is. They will inspire hours of play and will have your child's imagination soaring to new heights in no time flat. Even kids who don't like books, all they need to do is look through a couple of the interactive pages, and they'll be hooked. I truly hope you parents that are looking at buying these books will disregard the few bad reviews from these people who thought they were buying history books. I bet, to their disappointment, that even their kids loved these books. If I was the betting kind, I'd bet that these are going to be passed down in my family for a while. Take it from some one who loved the books as a kid, you will be very pleased with this purchase. Along with these, I also recommend Fairyopolis: A Flower Fairies Journal and all of the books in this series as well. Happy reading!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful to look at and "play" with. (or "with which to play and at which to look" if you're going to get technical), September 2, 2010

I discovered the Ologies series locally on the recommendation of a bookseller. I needed to get a child a gift and, as I am not a parent, had no clue about what is nice for kids these days. I was struck with the wonderful art direction: the puffy hard-cover jacket with little "gems" or compasses or whatnot embedded, the great art direction, the quality of the heavy glossy paper, the written content and how it dovetails nicely with the interactive elements contained in the book. It's the ultra "popup book" for the modern child. When I spotted this set of four books on Amazon-- Dragonology, Egyptology, Wizardology, Pirateology-- for not much more than I paid for one book, I had to snap them up. They will make great gifts. I would be careful about the Wizardology one for families who do not condone wizardry. No one seems to object to pirates, though... perplexingly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Gift for yourself and others!!!!!!!!, February 22, 2008
This review is from: The Ologies Collection (Hardcover)
I love these books. I purchased the 1st one (Egyptology) at Sam's Club a few years back, and thought it was the cutest thing to have around. I don't usually buy things for myself, but I fell in love with each and every one of them and everytime one came out, I'd buy one. Now I have the whole set by default. It would have been easier to buy the set package, but either I'm very happy with them. I also give them away as gifts!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great fantasy, mixed with true facts, September 19, 2007
This review is from: The Ologies Collection (Hardcover)
These are great books. The pop ups are amazing and expressing them in the form of diaries really makes you want to believe. It gets you interested and definitely hooks kids. I can't wait to have my own children and read them these before they go to bed.

It's a good buy for parents and fantasy lovers

These are top quality hard covered books that will last you for years to come. They will be wonderful for bedtime stories to put put visions in the kids heads and help them fantasize of things that are important to little kids. Great vehicle for spending quality time together as you are reading these to them. But they will need to be read to as they are way to advanced for children to read. But make NO mistake they will really look forward to their bedtime stories.

This review is from: The Ologies Collection (Hardcover)
For the woman who made the bad review MA'AM these are childrens books ages 9-12,I did not expect them to tell us any facts or thesis or anything.
I bought them because they looked cool, looked like something my kid would get a kick out of reading and looking at the pictures.
My 10 yr old HATES reading but he cannot put these down.He is so facinated by the fun stuff inside he even put down his game boy GASP lol
Heck my 14 yr old even reads the stuff to his little sisters.
Other items I bought to go along with these books I highly reccomend for less than $50 for all these books is awsome
Wandmaker Guidebook
Fairyopolis
Dragonology Tracking and Taming Dragons Volume 1: A Deluxe Book and Model Set: European Dragon (Ologies)

This review is from: The Ologies Collection (Hardcover)
I was expecting books that had some real information and educational material. However, I was very disappointed to find that the books are not that at all. The Wizardology book is a 'diary' of Merlin. From the description, I thought there would be a history of Wizardry and the legend of wizardry. The Egyptology book was the biggest flop of the series. I really expected some hard facts and real Egyptology, however, the book tries to pass itself off as a diary of a woman who was hunting for the tomb of Osiris. Dragonology was just as bad. No history of dragons from the east or west, just fantasy items. If you want facts, history and at least some educational material, you won't find them with these books. They don't even deserve the title of 'ology' since they are not a study of the subject matter, just a lot of fantasy. If you want extremely high priced fantasy for the content, buy the set. If you want something with substance, look elsewhere.
