5.0 out of 5 stars Probably the best Turkish CD in years..., September 21, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Olurum Sana (Audio CD)
Tarkan is not a new artist in Turkey, but he suddenly gained the world's attention in 1998 and 1999 with the hit single Simarik (the kiss).

Simarik is the biggest hit from this album, (it is the song where he kisses both left and right) but other singles have been or will be released (Bu gece, Olurum sana).

To describe this music as anything other than Turkish would be silly. However, it is very modern Turkish and the sound is what many trendy western dance acts would kill to create. Tarkan combines arabic rythms (very similar to latin rythms) with heavy drum machines, he uses traditional Turkish and modern western instruments together and he sings both arabic and western scales well. He also writes most of his songs himself.

The songs are in Turkish language and should be included in the little booklet (if you can understand any of it).

It is not just a dance album although the hit singles are dance numbers. Olurum sana includes a couple of strong, intense and powerful ballads which will make your heart long for Turkey in no time...

When I first heard of Tarkan I was in Paris, September 1998. I bought the album then and it soon grew to be my favorite CD. Now, one year later, it still is!

hwj, NZ 1999.

5.0 out of 5 stars TARKAN is Da Bomb!, December 17, 1999

This past summer I spent two fun-filled months is beautiful Istanbul, Turkey. I'm not Turkish, but I loved everything about the country. Then While I was watching a turkish version of MTV a video came on that at first made me roll with laughter. The way Tarkan danced was at first something I found quite amusing. As listened more I was hooked. I still found him funny, but I had to have the cd before I left Turkey. So I bought Olurum Sana. I took it home and played it for everyone. At first everyone laughed, but then soon after they too got hooked. His music is catchy and different and even though a lot of us can't understand a word of it, it still is amazing music. I'm starting a Tarkan Crew at my school and I'm sure he's going to catch on. I also saw him on an interview in which he said he was going to record an english album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Definitely worth a UK release - but don't translate it!, October 8, 1999
This review is from: Olurum Sana (Audio CD)
My partner Jane and I first heard this album on a gulet holiday in July 99, where it was played most evenings - so by the end we could sing most of the songs without the album. We were tempted to buy it there but resisted, only to hear Simarik on London Capital Radio a few weeks later (albeit transmitted over a mobile phone - it's a long story). I then ordered it from Amazon.

We were hooked by this album's blend of Turkish rhythm, phrasing and orchestration with a very western pop production style. Fortunately, Tarkan does not suffer from the Eurovision overacting syndrome but has a powerful and expressive voice.

I am sure this disc could break into UK mainstream but they would probably have to do an English version - a shame. Try it for yourself.

The most beautiful voice I've ever heard, Tarkan fills the world with songs that elicit smiles and shake hips. His terrific beats will make you want to dance and burst out singing even if you don't know one word of Turkish (which I don't). It doesn't matter whether or not you know the language, the music on this CD is worth every penny you spend on it. With his famous singles "Simarik", "Olurum Sana" and "Bu Gece (Kir Zincirlerini)", plus some rarely heard beauties like "Gecenin Urkek Kanatlarinda" (my absolute favorite) and "Ikimizin Yerine", this is a must-buy. The only thing it's missing is "Sikidim". If you simply want to be introduced into the underrated world of Turkish music, or if you can't get enough of this wonder named Tarkan, YOU MUST BUY THIS CD! It's definitely worth the money and the wait!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Olurum Sana is to die for, May 2, 2000

Tarkan is my favorite musician right now. I listen to this album all the time, especially the first song, "Simarik". I just never get sick of it, even though I play it over and over! It helps that I know Turkish (though not perfectly) because then I get the little nuances of his insanely sexy lyrics, but you certainly don't need to speak the language to get the message from his wonderfully expressive voice! This album and his other big album "Aacayipsin" are very highly recommended. "Tarkan" is a good album too but if you have "Olurum Sana" and "Aacayipsin" you already have most of the same songs. I can't wait for his new album, coming soon!

5.0 out of 5 stars Que rico es Tarkan!, November 29, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Olurum Sana (Audio CD)
The first time I saw or heard of Tarkan was on the 1999 World Music Awards. At first I was very asumed and thought a Turkish Ricky Martin, but after seeing his looks and the way he danced...I was just captivated! And now I'm hooked with Simarik, Bu Gece, Olurum Sana. This is one of the best CD's I ever had. You must buy it. It's absolutely great!

5.0 out of 5 stars Music that makes you want to stand up & dance wherever you r, October 23, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Olurum Sana (Audio CD)
First of all $imarik means spoiled, not kiss, The song is all about a snobby spoiled brat, nevertheless it is a great song. Tarkan isn't just amazing, he is Turkish, that is why he is so lively, the Turks are lively despite their stereotypes, they definitely know how to party.
