5.0 out of 5 stars Great Phone for the Price!, May 27, 2003
By
This review is from: Olympia OL-2400 2.4 GHz DSS Cordless Phone with Caller ID (Office Product)
I'm very pleased with this phone!

I got this phone about a week ago. At first, I only bought the base station (includes a handset) and one external handset. Two days ago I went back for two more handsets. I also bought a base station plus three external handsets for my folks. The price is incredible! The base + three external handsets cost about what the base alone will cost you on a Panasonic.

Directory:
* when you store a phone number from any handset, it is accessible from all handsets (shared phone directory)
* no "speed-dial" -- I have not found anyway to have 1-digit dialing. You have to look it directory entries up by name, you can't just press a "speed dial number"
* you can store phone numbers directly from the Caller ID
* I can't comment about the 10-digit dialing issue mentioned in another review. We have 10-digit dialing, so I'm happy
* I don't know what will happen to the directory if there is a power failure
* has dial and "pre-dial" options. You can press the "Phone" button and dial (like a regular phone) or dial the number and then press the "Phone" button (like a cell phone)

Caller ID:
* is shared by all handsets -- when you review it, it updates the status on all phones

Handset extras:
* handsets have a jack for an external headset
* handsets have belt clip you can put on them
* handsets have a replaceable front cover (just the top part). Blue is standard, each comes with beige and gray
* each handset can dial either another handset or all the other handsets. You can name the handsets, so this allows you to call the "Steve" handset from the "Kitchen" handset. Just press the "Int" button, select the handset you want to call (or "All handsets"), press the "Phone" button, and it rings :)

Batteries:
* comes with NiMH batteries (this is much better than the nickel cadmium batteries most cordless phones come with, but not as good as the Lithium hydride batteries most cell phones come with)

Other comments:
* has "Auto Answer". Allows you to program the phone so you can pick up a ringing phone and just talk -- don't have to press any buttons
* ringer volume control -- select from about 6 levels
* ringer pattern -- select from about 8 ringer patterns. Can choose one pattern for external calls and another for internal calls (handset to handset)
* I did notice a lot of echo on the first call, but it went away and has not come back
* you can wall mount the base, but not the charger bases for the external handsets

5.0 out of 5 stars Great phone for the price, June 18, 2003

I got a great discount and picked one of these including three additional handsets up for [a good price].
Quality is great for the prices. This is not a Mercedes under the sky (Siemens 4210 comes to mind) but does the job.
Good functionality (except that locking the keyboard requires 8 keystrokes - thankfully unlocking requires only 3) - and the best sound quality a found in a sub $100 2.4Ghz phone (I tried and returned a lot).
Nice loude ringer - caller ID on call waiting etc...
It is also small enough to fit in my pants pocket (I don't trust the belt clip when I am working in the yard.... I dropped to many phones in the dirt already...)

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice look and features - but falls short, January 14, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Olympia OL-2400 2.4 GHz DSS Cordless Phone with Caller ID (Office Product)
The look and feel of this phone is great. Lots of memory for
phone numbers, interchangeable faceplates, BUT
There's no backlight so you have to be in good light to
read the display.
It saves all numbers as 10 digit - OK if you're in a 10 digit calling area - bad if you're not as there's no way to edit them and 7 digit numbers have to be entered manually, making the call back feature of CID useless.
Although the sound quality is good, there's a pronounced echo when speaking that makes the phone annoying to use.
