You get what you pay for. The Olympus ME-15 is a small, lightweight lavalier style microphone. The cord is just three feet long, which makes it too short for most uses except recording your own voice. The mic is omnidirectional (picks up sound from all directions), which means it's pretty useless except under very quiet conditions. If you use the attached clip, the...

5.0 out of 5 stars Useful and Quality Microphone for a Great Price, May 8, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Olympus ME-15 Microphone (Personal Computers)
I purchased this mircrophone with the Olympus WS-331 Digital Voice Recorder. The WS-331 is a great recorder, and the use of the external microphone makes it even better. I can simply clip the microphone to my lapel and it picks up my voice easily. The quality of recording is improved simply because I am not trying to hold the recorder steady in front of my while I dictate.

One of the best things about this microphone is that the connecting wire allows me to leave the recorder on my belt while keeping the microphone on my lapel. I've used this to record lectures for my students, and the quality of the recording is very good.

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE THIS THING!!!, February 8, 2007
This review is from: Olympus ME-15 Microphone (Personal Computers)
This made my digital voice recorder 10x better, it picked up the sound much clearer and from farther away. I use this for college and so sometimes i sit in the back and sometimes in the front but i couldn't use my Digital Voice recorder w/o this. Highly Recommened

5.0 out of 5 stars Me-15 with WS-320M, August 31, 2006
This review is from: Olympus ME-15 Microphone (Personal Computers)
I use this microphone with an Olympus WS-320M digital recorder. I am a Pastor/Evangelist and I use this combination to record my sermons when I am preaching away from my home church. In addition, I use it to record my lectures at the Bible college where I teach.

This microphone provides much better sound reproduction than the built in mics on the digital recorder. I can achieve some pretty decent recordings using this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works very nice!, November 9, 2006
This review is from: Olympus ME-15 Microphone (Personal Computers)
This is a very nice microphone. It really improves the quality of the sound especially when you don't want to show your recorder, you just plug in the microphone, put the recorder in your bag and just let the microphone outside to do its job. It comes with a clip that you can use for example to put the recorder in your pocket and attach the microphone to your shirt.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works perfectly!, May 24, 2007

This microphone works great with the Olympus DS2. The wire is long enough to hang out of a purse or pocket, and conceal the recorder. This mike also has a clip, nice to clip to a shirt or lapel. Right out of the box, the mike plugs straight in to the mike jack of the Olympus and works flawlessly. As another reviewer has previously stated, this mike is a mono mike. It truly doesn't bother me, since I use this mike to record podcasts and archive guitar lessons. A good buy for a cheap price.

Inexpensive, very functional. Increases the sound quality of my personal digital voice recorder. Only problem is you get mono sound, which actually tends to work better for many spoken word recordings. Not what you want for music, but lectures recorded in stereo get distracting as the speaker moves from one channel to the next. If you want a good small stereo mike, check out the Olympus ME-51S. It will be about twice the price though.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid performer, January 9, 2007
This review is from: Olympus ME-15 Microphone (Personal Computers)
This is a great little microphone for the price. The sound quality is great and it has performed for us every Sunday without a hitch. We use this with the Olympus WS-320M and the two together produce a quality recording unmatched at this price point. My only complaints? The clip is a bit oversized and I wish it came with a windscreen.

Cable is long enough for most applications.
Picks up sound much better than built in Mic's on digital recorders. Would recommend if built in Mic's aren't working good enough.

If you use the attached clip, the mic has a tendency to pick up extraneous sounds like clothing rubbing against it. If you don't use the clip, your fingers can cause annoying extraneous sounds, too. Bottom line, it's compact and works as designed. It just isn't designed all that well. And for the price, I suppose that's all you can really expect. I'll keep it as an emergency back-up travel mic, but it's really no better than the built-in mic on my Olympus 300M.
