5.0 out of 5 stars Works!
I am using this reader with a 1 gig olympus type H XD card, a Fujifilm F30 camera and a sony vaio with XP home. XD cards can be a bit finicky so make sure that your gear is compatible before you buy. I haven't had any problems at all with this setup, works great and the transfers are very speedy. I have used the import photos wizard in windows and have copied and moved...

UPDATE 12/25/07: The frustrating slowness of this reader finally drove me to search for a faster solution. I discovered, however, that hi-speed readers with a dedicated XD slot are rarer than hen's teeth. Mostly you'll find "XD compatible" readers that require an adapter for XD cards-which is great if you're in need of another small part to lose. No thanks. At last,...

I have used the import photos wizard in windows and have copied and moved photos off the XD card. All methods have worked with this reader, I haven't killed any cards yet. Just make sure to format the xd card in your camera - not in the computer.

Update: currently I'm using this on a vista machine and it works great. I've used both type H cards and M cards (in the 1 gig variety) and had no problems at all. Highly recommended.

This is a great flash reader for travel. If your camera takes an xD card, I would highly recommend this, and with Free SuperSaver Shipping, you can't get much better. Although a large xD card is cheap and I don't usually fill it up on my travels, that doesn't stop my wife from wanting to review the pictures on our computer almost nightly. It's nice not to have to pull out a multi-card reader with separate cable and everything else. This beauty is actually small enough to fit in my small camera bag! Another thing I don't have to worry about forgetting on our trips! If anything, this piece is actually faster than my larger multi-card reader.

I bought this in lieu of the Fuji counterpart which was out of stock in Amazon. Since the Fuji Finepix E900 runs on AA batteries and its AC powercord/supply is an option one has to buy, this reader is a cheap, quick and even more portable alternative for downloading pix to my Mac. [Subsequent addition: have just bought the epraizer card reader which allows faster downloads. Also, my new Fuji Finepix s100fs (love it!!!) can use both SD cards which are much easier to find than the XDs.]

No thanks. At last, though, my search came to an end and I'm happy to direct you to the perfect XD card reader... you'll find it right here: Edge All In One Reader with Xd and Sdhc It has blazing USB 2.0 transfer speed as well as dedicated slots for XD and many other card formats. (I was beginning to think that the XD card format may have been the reason for the slow transfer speeds, but now I know that's not true.) About the only possible downside to this reader is the short USB cable: at just a few inches long, it stows nicely in a slot along the side of the reader, but it obviously must be kept close to your intended USB port. Without exaggeration, I'd estimate that this reader is at least 10X faster than the Olympus.

ORIGINAL REVIEW: Flash drive convenience and snail-like speed--that sums up this Olympic XD Card Reader. Believe the other reviews that complain about slowness. If you've got a dozen or so pics to download, no problem. But if you're in the habit of dumping a half gig or (god forbid) a full gig of photos onto your computer, then be prepared to wait... and wait... and wait. Very disappointing as compared to the high speed card reader that I use for my Memory Sticks, which is compatible with many other formats but (alas) not XD.

This product is absolutely the neatest and best thing I have ever used to transfer pictures from my digital camera card into my computer. You don't need your printer or the camera to perform this task. And especially since I have a laptop, I can do it anywhere. Definitely worth the purchase price.

This review is from: Olympus 202049 USB 200 Media Reader/writer (Retail Package) - Blue (Personal Computers)
The small size and ease of use are great but the performance of this card reader is disappointingly and frustratingly slow. I gave up and went back to downloading photos directly from the camera.

5.0 out of 5 stars Small, Sleek, Stylish... AND it works!, April 14, 2007
This review is from: Olympus 202049 USB 200 Media Reader/writer (Retail Package) - Blue (Personal Computers)
I have always hated the multi card readers. Somehow the card always gets jammed when i try to insert it into the "multi functional" slot. But that is just another reason to love this product. One slot means my card won't get messed up when i plug it in, and the small size means i can keep it with my camera in the camera bag.

I already have an extension USB cord for my thumb drive so i don't have to go to great lengths to insert it into my computer. When i have new pics, i just put the card reader in the USB extension instead. then it is a very fast upload to my computer and i am done.

my only problem with it is not its fault. I keep a messy desk, and i just need to remember to put it away in the same place every time. It is just super fortunate that the one i got is blue, making it easier to find among my messes when i don't put it away.

EXCELLENT PIECE OF EQUIPMENT. SHOULD BE STANDARD ISSUE WITH CAMERAS USING AN XD CARD. MAKES REVIEWING PICTURES A SNAP.

On my laptop it took over an hour to transfer between 10-15 photos. Read the fine print in the leaflet that comes with the reader and it states that it won't necessarily work with all computer systems. Mine is a pretty common Dell laptop with brand name components. When I transfered the same photos from the laptop to an external hard drive it took about 30 seconds...
