Olympus Cable Remote RM-UC1,
By

This review is from: Olympus CABLE REMOTE USB RM-UC1 (Electronics)
The cable release works just like the shutter release on the camera but the cable is way too short - barely 3 ft. Olympus has no extensions available. Extensions not available on the open market because Olympus uses a 12 pin mini USB connector that nobody else uses. I opened the switch and found it to be a simple make then make momentary contact. Only three conductors are used: 2 signal and one shielded ground. Sooo, I converted the unit to a standard 3.5 mm stereo plug and cable so ANY such common stereo cord can be extended. Works just fine now. Cables can be daisy chained together to get the desired length for group photos. Inexpensive and effective solution to the problem.

Good, but too expensive.,

I am using this with my Olympus E-520 DSLR camera.
Pros: * The remote release works exactly as the shutter button on the camera except it adds a shutter lock to allow you to lock the shutter open for an extended period (for Bulb exposures). * The remote release allows you to press the button half way to focus and set exposure, just as the camera's shutter button does. Cons: * The cable is too short - only 2.7 feet long. This means that the release is useful for long exposures, but it cannot be used from any great distance. * This device is WAAAAAY too expensive for the function it performs. The old, mechanical cable releases are still available for less than $10, but they won't work with my digital camera. Additional Notes: * This remote release connects to the camera through the USB connection that I use to download photos to my computer. It is entirely electronic. It does not require batteries of its own. * The wireless remote control, Olympus RM-1, allows remote shutter control for about half the price of this RM-UC1 release, but the wireless remote also has a limited range and must be used from in front of the camera. * I marked it down to four stars because the cable could easily be twice as long and because of the cost.

This device functions flawlessly with my E-510. Push the button half way for AF and fully depress it to activate shutter. The only problem I have with it is the short cable, its only 2.8 feet long.
